Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures using veterinary-specific equipment and techniques.
- Perform laboratory work including blood draws, urinalysis, and other diagnostic tests utilizing veterinary laboratory equipment.
- Manage animal restraint and handling with confidence, ensuring safety for both animals and staff.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments accurately following veterinary protocols.
- Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures, including IV insertion, anesthesia monitoring, and recovery oversight.
- Operate radiology equipment to perform X-ray imaging and assist with diagnostic radiology assessments.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infections and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Support emergency medicine cases by providing critical care, vascular access, and intensive monitoring as needed.
- Document all procedures thoroughly in veterinary software systems while maintaining detailed medical records.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners about care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up needs.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, and anatomy.
- Experience with dental terminology and assisting in dental procedures is preferred.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry practices
- Demonstrated veterinary technician experience with skills in anesthesia, IV insertion, phlebotomy, and medication administration.
- Familiarity with veterinary surgical assistance, radiology diagnostics (X-ray), laboratory work, and critical care procedures.
- Ability to handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques; dog handling skills are essential.
- Proficiency in veterinary software for record keeping and scheduling.
- Excellent client communication skills to explain treatments clearly and compassionately.
