We have eight Orlando Orthopaedic Center locations throughout Central Florida, plus a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center at the heart of our downtown campus located in the trendy SoDo Shopping District just south of downtown Orlando. To provide more immediate care, we have opened several orthopaedic injury walk-in clinics located throughout Orlando and the surrounding communities.

POSITION: Clinical Resource Float
RESPONSIBLE TO: Clinical Resource Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Supply patients with Durable Medical Equipment (DME) products, ensuring proper fit, and educating the patient for proper use, donning and doffing. Perform prior authorization process for high-end DME products. Assist Clinical Resource Manager with DME inventory management. Provide clinical support by dispensing prescribed medications in-house for the Downtown Orlando location as well as handling specialty injection orders, outside medication prior-authorization requests, and medication refill requests. Assist with medication inventory management.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma, required
- Bachelor’s degree in health-related field, preferred
- CPR/AED certified
- Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology, required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- At least two years of work experience in orthopedic clinical assisting, DME fitting, or pharmacy background, required
- Splinting, casting and/or bracing knowledge, preferred
- Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of practice management and electronic health record software
- Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service a must
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
DME Support
- Fit patients with a wide variety of Orthopaedic braces, splints, and devices, excluding Home Medical Equipment
- For patients requiring Home Medical Equipment to be dispensed, coordinate dispensing of the item to the patient with an Athletic Trainer
- Maintain communication among the Patients, Providers/Patient Care Teams, Revenue Cycle department, and Clinical Resource Manager
- Verify DME benefits for all commercial insurance carriers and/or obtain authorization from Worker’s Compensation carriers pertaining to high end DME
- Contact patients to pick-up surgery DME as directed by the Clinical Resource Manager
- Process Electronic Health Record system messages and tasks within 4 hours of receipt
- Track all DME items ordered and dispensed daily for respective Orlando Orthopaedic Center (OOC) clinic location as directed by the Clinical Resource Manager
- Ensure that patients complete and sign Proof of Delivery and or Advanced Beneficiary Notice forms with the appropriate billing codes and associated charges for dispensed or declined DME products
- Assist Clinical Resource Manager with semi-annual DME inventory for all OOC locations
- Travel to satellite offices to cover DME clinics as directed by the weekly schedule
- Assist with Pharmacy coverage and responsibilities as needed
- Assist satellite office Branch Managers and clinical team during down time when available
Pharmacy Support
- Receive written/electronic prescriptions through EHR and prepare the medication as prescribed by the Provider at the Downtown Orlando location (this includes prescriptions created at an office visit or requested via message)
- Ensure all requests for prior authorization received from outside pharmacies prior to 4:30 PM are processed by using CoverMyMeds or via telephone prior to close of business
- Confirm the information on the prepared medication is complete, accurate, and matches what was prescribed by the Provider
- Enter patient demographics into the pharmacy software system, ensuring accuracy of information entered
- Provide prepared medication(s) to the prescribing Provider for verification and signature
- Ensure dispensing log is accurate and signed by the prescribing Provider within 2 business days
- Ensure all dispensed post-operative medications are prepared and provided to the surgery center (OOOSC) the day before the surgery (no later than 7:30 am on the same surgery date for last minutes add-ons), forward the medication log to the corresponding personnel at the surgery center daily, notifying them via the log if the physician did not order any medication and any other pertaining information
- Check E-FORCSE when requested or applicable
- Check daily dispensing reports for errors
General Administration
- Work at any Orlando Orthopaedic Center location as directed by weekly work schedule
- Maintain patient confidentiality; comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Maintain detailed knowledge of practice management, electronic health record and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Ensure that cancelled surgery medications are returned to inventory and reversed in pharmacy software system accordingly
- Assist with handling specialty injectable medications
- Mark medications within 120 days of expiration with approved identifier in order to ensure timely dispensing before expiration
- Perform general clerical duties, such as answering phones, and maintaining proper documentation practices
- Provide basic DME/medication dispensing training on an intermittent basis as requested by the Clinical Resource Manager
- Perform all other tasks and projects assigned by the Clinical Resource Manager, Branch Manager, or Physician

Typical Physical Demands
Work requires the ability to lift, up to 40 pounds occasionally with frequent lifting between 5-10 pounds. Work requires the ability to sit, stoop, crouch and kneel as needed during job responsibilities. Position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a computer, telephone, calculator, copier, and such other office equipment as necessary. Position also requires viewing computer screens and typing for long periods of time and working in an environment which may be stressful. Position could require occasional travel.
