Sun Shuttle & Transit is looking for motivated individual to join our Driver Trainee program in San Luis Obispo. This entry-level, paid position is designed to train candidates with little or no commercial driving experience to become fully licensed, qualified Commercial Drivers.
Trainees will receive hands-on instruction, classroom coursework, and supervised road time, with the goal of earning a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and transitioning into a full Commercial Driver role upon successful completion of the program.

Participate fully in all phases of the training program, including classroom instruction, and supervised behind-the-wheel practice.

Study and prepare for required CDL permit and licensing exams within the timelines set by the program.

Learn and demonstrate safe vehicle operation techniques, including defensive driving, backing, turning, and space management.

Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections under the guidance of a certified trainer.

Shadow experienced drivers and trainers to learn routes, schedules, and company procedures.

Understand and follow all applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT and FMCSA requirements.

Maintain accurate training logs, hours-of-service records, and required documentation.

Uphold a professional, courteous, and safety-first attitude at all times, including when interacting with passengers or the public.

Complete all program milestones and evaluations to progress toward full Commercial Driver status.

Minimum age of 21.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; no serious violations.

Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and pre-employment drug screening.

Eligible to obtain a CDL permit and, ultimately, a CDL license.

Strong communication skills and willingness to learn and follow instruction closely.
