Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Institutional Advancement advances a culture of philanthropy through the engagement of alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends (both individually and in the corporate community) in support of the Institution’s mission of preparing students to become global leaders and practitioners who transform communities. By using creative strategies to enhance the University’s image, the office promotes the overall mission of North Carolina Central University to its external publics in order to solicit and acquire philanthropic support.
Primary Purpose of Position
North Carolina Central University Division of Institutional Advancement seeks an experienced team member to guide the Corporate and Foundations platform of NCCU. Working in close partnership with both internal and external stakeholders, the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations will develop and execute a comprehensive plan to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate and foundation prospects and donors. The Director will implement corporate and foundation grant strategies to meet or exceed goals and expand philanthropic support.
The successful candidate will serve as the leading author for most grant proposals and will take the lead in building strong relationships with the corporate and foundation community in the Research Triangle area and beyond.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and secure compelling proposals, grants, and reports across multiple disciplines.
- Five to seven years of grant management, institutional fundraising and corporate partnership experience, preferably in the higher educational sector. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects. Experience using reporting tools, design software, and donor management software.
- Proven track record in fostering professional relationships with corporate and foundation program officers and staff, managing a dynamic portfolio of prospects and donors; Demonstrated success in portfolio management, prospect qualification, analytics, and research.
- Proven self-starter capable of making sound, ethical, independent judgments. Success working on teams to develop high-level proposals with funding opportunities across disciplines.
Minimum Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required, master’s preferred.
- 7+ Years of Fundraising with a demonstrated focus in Corporate and Foundation Relations.
