Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on long-distance OTR routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load, secure, and unload freight using manual handling techniques, including freight requiring hazardous materials regulations or specialized equipment such as flatbeds or tankers.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery routes and meet delivery schedules.
- Transport refrigerated trailers, automobile transportation units, or other specialized cargo while maintaining the integrity of the load throughout transit.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers to ensure safety standards are met; report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Manage documentation accurately for delivery manifests, bills of lading, inspection reports, and logs in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Communicate professionally with dispatchers and customers to coordinate deliveries, provide updates, and resolve any issues that arise during transit.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class A license with a clean driving record; experience with over-the-road (OTR) driving routes preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in commercial truck driving, including freight handling and delivery driving.
- Knowledge of refrigeration units, hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat), and dangerous goods handling is a plus.
- Proficiency in GPS navigation systems and route planning for efficient logistics cargo handling.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks safely and effectively; experience with manual handling of cargo is essential.
- Familiarity with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations.
- Strong physical stamina for truck loading/unloading tasks; ability to handle heavy or bulky freight safely.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, compliance, and customer service in delivery driving environments.
