The Forensic Scientist has primary responsibility for performing toxicology testing on bloods, urines and other specimens using instrumental and manual methods established by the laboratory.

Be alert and aware at all times to ensure safety, accuracy and efficiency.

Maintain competency in the following areas:

Follow all written procedures in departmental SOP

Prepares and verifies performance of all new reagents
-
Ensures that all required calibrators and quality control samples are included in each batch
-
Demonstrates good analytical technique
-
Capable of performing routine maintenance of equipment
-
Record quality control values for each batch and notify Supervisor and/or Forensic Scientist II/III if unacceptable results are obtained.

Perform and document temperature checks of temperature dependent equipment.

Maintain acceptable productivity/service levels, and notify Supervisor and/or Forensic Scientist II/III of instrument or production problems.

Complete assigned continuing education activities and competency verification checks.

Follow the direction of the Supervisor and/or Forensic Scientist II/III and adhere to all company and department policies.

Complete all required quality control and/or quality assurance documentation related to job function.

Follow work schedule as defined by the Supervisor.

Maintain professional working relationship with co-workers.

Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, Forensic Science or another related field
