Job Description:
The Assistant Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist supports the development, maintenance, analysis, and management of GIS data for a wide range of professional services. This role assists with GIS analysis, data development, data maintenance, and data preparation for use in GIS applications. A key responsibility of the position is providing excellent customer service by regularly communicating project status and collaborating with clients to ensure project objectives are met.
Responsibilities
- Assist with GIS analysis, data development, data collection, and mapping for client projects while supporting both internal and external project teams.
- Assist with GIS metadata creation, digital feature extraction, land survey record searches, and ownership data research from a variety of sources.
- Assist with coordinate system projections and geospatial data transformations for project deliverables.
- Assist in creating and updating GIS maps, map layers, and geospatial databases.
- Assist with georeferencing raster and vector datasets.
- Support ad-hoc analyses and provide recommendations to help achieve business goals related to quality, billability, and utilization.
- Assist with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of GIS deliverables to ensure compliance with client and project requirements.
- Utilize software applications and information from various sources (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Excel, deeds, field notes, and other project documentation) to develop GIS maps supporting field personnel and client deliverables.
- Regularly communicate project status with project teams and clients to support successful project execution.
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- GIS Professional (GISP) certification or an ESRI technical certification is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently while demonstrating accuracy, reliability, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment with demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Basic proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Prior internship and/or related consulting experience is preferred.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
- A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Pay: $30.00 - $31.00 per hour
