Responsibilities
- Administer medications accurately following physician orders and state regulations, ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature, while recognizing abnormal findings and reporting them promptly.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, mobility, and feeding, maintaining dignity and respect at all times.
- Support residents with specialized care needs including Alzheimer’s care, dementia care, memory care, and hospice support.
- Perform medical procedures such as catheter care, tube feeding, wound dressing changes, and basic first aid or CPR when necessary.
- Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and state healthcare laws.
- Follow all safety protocols for manual handling and heavy lifting to prevent injury to yourself and residents.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure compliance with state Board of Nursing standards and healthcare regulations.
- Work effectively within EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner to document patient care activities thoroughly.
- Engage in ongoing training related to physiology knowledge, anatomy, medical terminology, and caregiving best practices for geriatric populations.
Skills
- Proven experience working in assisted living facilities or nursing homes with a strong understanding of senior care needs.
- Prior experience in hospital settings or home care environments is highly valued.
- Familiarity with working with individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring memory care is preferred.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid; knowledge of HIPAA compliance is essential.
- Proficiency in medical documentation using EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with EHR systems is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medication administration protocols, and medical terminology relevant to geriatric patients.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle manual tasks involving physical strength while maintaining safety standards.
- Excellent caregiving skills combined with compassion for vulnerable populations; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of state healthcare regulations and compliance requirements for assisted living environments.
