Medical Assistant (Gap Year Position for Pre-Med Students)

Our academic neurology practice and clinical research center, specializing in epilepsy and the treatment of seizure disorders, is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and highly motivated Medical Assistant. This full-time, paid position is specifically designed for recent college graduates taking a gap year before medical school.

Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and healthcare providers with patient intake, including obtaining vital signs and updating medical histories in the electronic health record.
- Support patient care during office visits and clinical procedures.
- Schedule appointments, coordinate patient flow, and maintain accurate medical records while adhering to HIPAA and privacy regulations.
- Educate patients regarding treatment plans, medications, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care under physician supervision. Complete the discharge instructions.
- Prior authorizations, appeals, medical records uploads
- Assist with clinical research activities and patient recruitment for ongoing clinical trials, as appropriate.
- Perform other clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
- Front desk representative tasks and duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree completed.
- Recent college graduate planning to attend medical school after a gap year.
- Strong interest in medicine, neurology, neuroscience, or clinical research.
- Previous experience in a medical office, hospital, or clinical setting is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of neurology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate, professional approach to patient care.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
