JOB SUMMARY
The Hazardous Material Technician is responsible for the collection, separation, assessment, processing, and storage of HazWaste resulting from demilitarization operations in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations.
The Laundry Technician is responsible for washing, sanitizing, and distributing employee uniforms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of hazardous waste
- Ensure proper packaging and storage of hazardous waste prior to shipping or storage
- Perform explosive residue testing on all waste material
- Decontaminate material that has been exposed to Class 1, 2 and 8 CFR 49 dangerous goods
- Clean spilled material whenever necessary (i.e. hydraulic fluid)
- Perform verifying and certifying inspections on all material potentially presenting an explosive hazard in accordance with DODM 4140
- Perform spot inspections of satellite accumulation areas (SAA) ensuring the SAA limits are not exceeded and waste is removed and sent to temporary storage in accordance with 40 CFR
- Maintain clean and sanitized uniforms and laundry equipment
- Performs ADDP audits on demilitarization processes
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
- Knowledge of ISO standards and procedures
- Ability to performing inspections according to checklists
- Knowledge of record keeping procedures and best practices
- Knowledge of work instructions/SOPs or other documents used to monitor processes
- Knowledge of or ability to learn safety standards
- Knowledge of or ability to learn HazWaste processing standards
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Ability to perform basic mental math calculations
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
Three years in a manufacturing environment handling hazardous materials/waste or one year in a process auditing role.
Background Prerequisites
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, and controlled substance testing.

- Performing outdoor work and exposure to various weather conditions
- Frequently required to walk distances of several hundred yards at a time
- Occasionally working from squatting, kneeling, or bending positions
- Performs 100% of work in manufacturing/production environment requiring PPE to include safety glasses, earplugs, mask, and safety shoes
- Lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)
- Exposure to elements of extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain while working outdoors or in partially outdoor environment
