Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Surgical PCU position requiring ventilator experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Works in the Surgical PCU of a Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital
Unit functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
Includes 2 beds for chronic trach patients requiring ventilator care (not ICU level)
Patient ratios typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
Uses EPIC for charting
Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
Remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting used to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
Floating required within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units

Active VA or Compact RN license required, pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
Minimum 1 year of RN experience, preferably at a hospital with 250+ beds
Strong post-op patient care experience required
EPIC charting experience required
Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Rapid Response/Code team activation
Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
Ventilator care experience for chronic trach patients required
Experience managing cardiac drips without titration
Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
Experience with isolation precautions and PPE
Experience with ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach care, endo tools, PICC lines, and MML

Provide direct nursing care to surgical, bariatric, and trauma stepdown patients
Support Rapid Response and Code teams as needed
Work within a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
First-time travelers may be considered with strong post-op experience, though at least one prior travel assignment is preferred
Facility allows one call-off shift per 2 weeks
Local candidates within 100 miles are generally not accepted, though limited exceptions apply for candidates living 50-99.9 miles or under 50 miles away for a single non-extendable assignment
Previous employees, whether per diem or permanent, must wait at least one year before returning as a traveler
Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
