Position Summary
The Floating Teacher Assistant is an essential part of the Madelaine Halmos Academy (MHA) – a private elementary school, serving kindergarten through 5th grade students. The position provides flexible support across multiple classrooms and grade levels to ensure a safe, positive, and productive learning environment throughout the school day.
The Floating Teacher Assistant assists with small group instruction, student redirection, and individualized support; supervises lunch blocks; covers teacher lunch breaks; and provides short-term or full-day substitute coverage as needed. This role also supports daily routines, classroom transitions, materials preparation, Out-of-School Time (OST) snack distribution, and end-of-day transitions to ensure students move safely and smoothly to afterschool programs or dismissal.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction, Assessment, and Evaluation

Assist with set-up of necessary materials and lesson plan preparation for classroom effectiveness.
- Assist teacher with tracking student attendance, academic records, class schedules, delivery and preparation of assessments.
- Administer individual assistance and work with small groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcement of learning strategies.

Support teacher in establishing a classroom management system that maintains appropriate discipline and creates a positive learning environment in which students are actively engaged in learning, social interaction, cooperative learning, and self-motivation.
- Support teacher in using appropriate instructional strategies, books, and materials that reflect each student's culture, learning styles, unique needs, and socio-economic background.
- Support teacher in using appropriate techniques, strategies, books, and materials, which promote and enhance critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students. Create projects designed to enhance instruction.
- Support teacher in using assessment strategies (traditional, authentic, and alternative) which are aligned with the curricula and standards to assist in the continuous development of the learner.
- Support teacher in utilizing data to inform instruction and meet the differentiated needs of the students.
- Support teacher in using an understanding of learning and human development to provide a positive learning environment which supports the intellectual, personal, and social development of all students.
- Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Models and reinforces self-discipline and responsibility.
- Coordinate in partnership with school leaders, community, school events and showcases.

Reinforce school-wide rules, discipline, and expectations.

Demonstrate skill for teaching students of all ability levels/learning styles.

Attend school events outside regular school hours including, but not limited to: Parent/teacher conferences, arts performances, student or family socials, open houses and special events.
- Support where needed in any age group.
Professional Development

Engage in planned, quality professional development and continuous improvement for self and school.

Attend conferences relating to education as may be required by law, by the Department of Education, or Madelaine Halmos Academy of Jack & Jill Center.

Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.

Support the teacher in maintaining records as may be required by law, by regulations of the state, Broward County Public Schools, or Madelaine Halmos Academy/Jack & Jill Center.

Support the teacher in the facilitation of fire and emergency drills, under the direction of the Principal of Elementary Education as may be prescribed by law, by regulations of the state/local county licensing and as otherwise may be deemed necessary.
- Fulfill the terms of any written agreement, unless released from the contract by Jack & Jill Center, and adhere to Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct of Florida Department of Education.
- Account for all school property (keys, records, reports, personal computers, digital devices, etc.) to the Director of Schools as may be prescribed by regulations of Madelaine Halmos Academy of Jack & Jill Center.

The Floating Teacher Assistant possesses the following minimum qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Two years of college classes or an Associate's Degree in education or related program preferred.
- At least one or more years of experience in an educational program for school age children.

Strong knowledge of STEAM concepts.

CPR/First Aid certification for (Infant through Adult) required or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Department of Children and Families (DCF) Childcare 45 Hours required to work in Out of School Time (OST) program (or ability to obtain).

Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of elementary education best practices in federal and/or state standards, and content-specific subject matter.
- Basic computer skills and experience with Google platform.
- A valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
- Proper documentation to work in the United States.

Successfully complete and pass a Level II Clearinghouse Background Screening - HB531 | Florida Agency for Health Care Administration
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8- hour shift
