Job Summary
The Converting Superintendent is responsible for leading and managing all converting department operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality corrugated products. This position oversees departmental personnel, production scheduling, equipment performance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards. The Converting Superintendent partners closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Scheduling, and Customer Service teams to meet customer expectations and operational goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct and oversee all converting operations, including flexographic printing, rotary die cutting, folder-gluer operations, specialty folder-gluers, and finishing equipment.

Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, lead operators, and production employees to achieve performance objectives and foster employee engagement.

Ensure production schedules are executed efficiently while meeting customer delivery requirements and quality standards.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including safety, productivity, waste, downtime, labor efficiency, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and safe work practices.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, and other operational excellence methodologies.

Collaborate with Maintenance to optimize preventive maintenance programs, reduce equipment downtime, and improve machine reliability.

Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure products consistently meet customer specifications and quality expectations.

Analyze production data and identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency.

Manage labor scheduling, staffing levels, overtime, and departmental budgets to meet production demands while controlling costs.

Participate in hiring, training, performance management, employee development, and succession planning.

Investigate production issues, equipment failures, and quality concerns, implementing corrective and preventive actions as needed.

Ensure compliance with food safety, environmental, and customer-specific requirements where applicable.

Support capital improvement projects, equipment installations, and process optimization initiatives.

Maintain effective communication across all departments to ensure alignment with business objectives and customer commitments.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of 5–10 years of progressively responsible manufacturing experience within the corrugated packaging industry.

Previous supervisory or management experience overseeing converting operations preferred.

Strong knowledge of corrugated converting equipment, including flexo folder-gluers, rotary die cutters, specialty folder-gluers, and finishing operations.

Demonstrated leadership experience managing multiple shifts and large production teams.

Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement principles, and performance metrics.

Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while managing multiple priorities.
