Position Summary
As a AI/ML Software Engineer, you will be developing, adapting, and optimizing image recognition algorithms for tactical environments and embedded/edge hardware. The ideal candidate will bring both theoretical rigor and practical engineering experience to build reliable, high-confidence computer vision solutions that operate in real-world conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, modify, and optimize existing image recognition algorithms (e.g., object detection, semantic segmentation, or tracking approaches such as YOLOv8, Mask R-CNN, or DeepSORT) for execution on embedded or edge computing platforms.
- Design and implement synthetic labeled training datasets to augment real-world imagery, ensuring robustness across varying environmental and operational conditions.
- Generate synthetic imagery from a physics-based modeling perspective (e.g., accounting for illumination, material properties, sensor characteristics, and atmospheric effects) to align training data with actual optical sensor performance.
- Quantify and validate model performance using metrics such as precision, recall, confusion matrices, and confidence intervals to assess system readiness for deployment.
- Collaborate with algorithm developers, hardware engineers, and system integrators to ensure AI performance meets mission and hardware constraints.
- Stay current on emerging AI/ML methods and edge-deployment frameworks to enhance system efficiency and capability.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in modern machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX).
- Experience with computer vision libraries and tools (e.g., OpenCV, NVIDIA TensorRT, or OpenVINO).
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
- Experience deploying models on embedded or edge hardware (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, Intel NUC, AMD Ryzen Embedded).
- Demonstrated ability to assess and refine algorithmic performance using quantitative evaluation techniques.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or 5+ years of experience in applied AI/ML development for imaging, optical, or sensor-based systems.
- Background in optical physics, radiometry, or computer graphics–based image synthesis.
- Experience generating physics-based synthetic imagery using tools such as Blender, Unreal Engine, or custom rendering pipelines.
- Understanding of sensor modeling and the integration of physics-based parameters (e.g., MTF, SNR, contrast, spectral response).
- Familiarity with MLOps tools for versioning, data curation, and training pipeline automation.
