Fairfield Memorial Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Physical Therapist Assistant to join our Therapy Services team. Working under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, the PTA provides high‑quality rehabilitative care to patients across the lifespan—from pediatrics to geriatrics. This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to deliver safe, effective, and patient‑centered therapy in a fast‑paced environment. The PTA must be comfortable treating patients across multiple settings, including acute care, outpatient, home health, and skilled/long‑term care. The PTA supports FMH’s mission by assisting with therapeutic interventions, documenting patient progress, and collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care. This position requires professionalism, adaptability, and strong problem‑solving abilities to meet the diverse needs of patients and support optimal functional outcomes.
Provide therapeutic interventions for patients in outpatient and Swing Bed settings, including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, neuromuscular re‑education, and gait training
Ensure safe patient handling using proper body mechanics, transfer techniques, and lift equipment
Administer modality treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hot/cold therapy, and traction under PT direction
Assist with functional mobility training including transfers, ambulation, balance, and ADL‑related activities
Monitor and document patient progress with accurate, timely notes in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards
Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety, and functional strategies appropriate to outpatient and Swing Bed needs
Fit and train patients on assistive devices including braces, prostheses, walkers, and supportive equipment
Support interdisciplinary collaboration with nursing, therapy, case management, and medical staff to coordinate care and discharge planning
Maintain safety and infection‑control standards in treatment areas, patient rooms, and therapy gym environments
