Overview
McHugh Psychological Group, Inc. is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and growth-oriented Registered Psychological Associate to join our private practice in Redondo Beach, California.
This is a hybrid, supervised position offering experience in an established insurance-based and private-pay practice. The selected clinician will provide psychotherapy to a diverse caseload that may include children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, veterans, and older adults. Presenting concerns include trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, developmental concerns, life transitions, and other emotional or behavioral challenges.
The position is especially well suited to a doctoral-level clinician working toward California psychologist licensure who values thoughtful supervision, professional development, clinical variety, and increasing independence. Psychological assessment opportunities may also be available based on the clinician’s education, experience, and demonstrated competence.
We recognize that an early-career clinician will not arrive with expertise in every population or treatment approach. We are looking for someone with strong foundational skills, sound professional judgment, openness to feedback, and a genuine commitment to providing ethical and compassionate care.
Although our primary interest is in hiring a Registered Psychological Associate, qualified AMFT, ASW, and APCC applicants are also welcome to apply.
Responsibilities
- Conduct clinical intakes and diagnostic assessments.
- Provide weekly individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, and older adults based on the clinician’s experience, interests, and competence.
- Provide couples or family therapy when appropriate to the clinician’s training.
- Develop thoughtful case conceptualizations, diagnoses, and individualized treatment plans.
- Use evidence-based and developmentally appropriate interventions tailored to each client’s needs.
- Assess suicide risk and other urgent clinical concerns, develop appropriate safety plans, and consult with the clinical supervisor when needed.
- Complete progress notes, treatment plans, safety plans, and other clinical documentation accurately and within required timeframes.
- Maintain professional, timely, and compassionate communication with clients, administrative staff, and the clinical supervisor.
- Coordinate care with physicians, schools, social workers, caregivers, and other professionals when clinically appropriate and properly authorized.
- Attend and participate actively in required weekly supervision.
- Apply supervisory feedback to clinical work, documentation, case conceptualization, and professional development.
- Follow applicable legal, ethical, confidentiality, insurance, billing, and practice requirements.
- Develop and maintain a reliable, recurring caseload.
- Provide a combination of in-person services at the Redondo Beach office and telehealth services, according to practice needs and the clinician’s approved schedule.
- Maintain active California registration and accurately track supervised professional experience.
Psychological Assessment Opportunities
Registered Psychological Associates with appropriate training may have opportunities to participate in psychological testing and evaluation under supervision.
Depending on the clinician’s experience and demonstrated competence, responsibilities may include:
- Conducting clinical interviews

Previous assessment experience is valued but is not required for every applicant. Assessment responsibilities will be assigned only when consistent with the clinician’s training, competence, and scope of practice.
