Nursery Worker

Reports To: Nursery Coordinator
The Nursery Worker provides a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for infants and young children during worship services and church activities. This position supports the mission of First United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ by providing loving, Christ-centered care for children while partnering with families.
Qualifications:
● Strong Christian faith and a commitment to the mission of First United Methodist Church
● Experience caring for infants and young children is preferred.
● Dependable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team.
● Current CPR and First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain.
● Ability to pass a criminal background check and complete Safe Gatherings training.
Key Responsibilities:
Child Care
· Provide attentive, nurturing care for infants and young children.
· Engage children in age-appropriate play and activities.
· Comfort children as needed and notify parents or guardians of concerns when appropriate.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming nursery environment.
· Assist with sign-in and sign-out procedures.
Child Safety and Care
· Follow all church child protection policies, Safe Gatherings requirements, and nursery procedures.
· Respond appropriately to accidents, injuries, illnesses or emergencies and complete required incident reporting.
· Report safety concerns or policy violations promptly to the Nursery Coordinator.
· Maintain confidentiality about children, families, and church matters.
Communication
· Welcome families and create a positive first impression for visitors.
· Communicate professionally and compassionately with parents and guardians regarding their children’s needs.
· Work cooperatively with the Nursery Coordinator and other nursery workers to provide consistent care
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift and carry infants and young children up to approximately 30 pounds.
· Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and stoop.
· Ability to move quickly in response to children’s needs or emergencies.
· Ability to remain attentive and actively supervise children throughout assigned shifts.
Expectations
· Support and uphold the mission, values, and policies of First United Methodist Church.
· Work collaboratively with the Nursery Coordinator, other nursery workers, and church staff.
· Be present and prepared for assigned worship services, Wednesday evening programming, and other scheduled church activities requiring nursery care.
· Foster a welcoming, caring, and Christ-centered environment for children and their families.
· Perform other duties as assigned that support the ministry and mission of First United Methodist Church.
Benefits & Salary
· This is a part-time hourly position with a schedule based on nursery needs.
Job performance and compensation will be evaluated annually by the Nursery Coordinator, Senior Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
Pay: From $13.50 per hour
