About the Role
The Grove – Irish Pub is seeking a Head Chef who can independently run the kitchen for most shifts. There may be times when no additional kitchen staff are present, so applicants must be fully capable of handling all kitchen operations alone. The role requires strong organization, clear communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once, including handling in‑house orders and DoorDash orders at the same time. Responsibilities include menu preparation, inventory management, vendor communication, equipment troubleshooting, and maintaining compliance with Pennsylvania food safety regulations. The Head Chef also completes profit reports, shift documentation, record keeping, and basic cost calculations. This position reports directly to the owner and may include tasks outside of kitchen operations when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Independent kitchen operation — Managing all kitchen duties alone on most shifts
- Kitchen management and daily operational oversight
- Creating daily specials that fit the pub’s identity
- Designing, testing, and running weekend food and appetizer features
- Developing new menu items and proposing updates with owner approval
- Recipe development and refinement
- Preparing and executing menu items consistently
- Inventory management, ordering, and stock rotation
- Vendor communication and resolving delivery issues
- Maintaining compliance with Pennsylvania food safety regulations
- Coordinating DoorDash and in‑house orders at the same time
- Cooking multiple orders at once during busy periods
- Reporting directly to the owner
- Generating profit reports, cost breakdowns, and inventory reports
- Completing shift documentation and maintaining accurate records
- Using Canva and Microsoft 365 for menus, reports, and documentation
- Troubleshooting minor kitchen equipment issues
- Following emergency procedures when needed
- Interacting with customers when required, including handling special requests
- Maintaining a professional appearance and proper hygiene
- Demonstrating respectful workplace conduct at all times
- Completing miscellaneous tasks outside of kitchen operations when assigned
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organized, and safe
Qualifications
- No past experience required, though highly recommended
- No training provided; applicants must already be capable of performing listed duties
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
- Reliable transportation
- Clean background history
- Ability to work independently for most of the shift
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
- Strong time‑management and multitasking abilities
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items
- Ability to stand for long periods during shifts
- Comfortable managing multiple tickets and cooking tasks at once
- Ability to use Canva and Microsoft 365
- Basic math skills for portioning, costing, and profit reporting
- Dependable and punctual
- Good communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of business information
- Ability to follow company policies and emergency procedures

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
