Set up and operate Hobbs, Shapers, and other machinery to produce quality parts in a timely manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Be a good role model, be on time, work to the bell, and show good company values.

Report shop floor problems to the Department Supervisor in a timely manner.

Select the appropriate tools and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.

Work from set-up sheets and print information in order to produce parts according to specifications.

Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machine.

Set-up, adjust, and machine parts to required specifications using gear-cutting machines (i.e., hob and shaper machines)

Listen and be aware of the machine and tooling to ensure they are running and functioning properly.

Read and understand gauging sheets.

Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauges, and outside diameter gauges.

Read and interpret blueprints to insure parts are being made according to specifications.

Follow statistical process control procedures.

Develop skills and learn how to complete jobs efficiently.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Ask questions. If you don't understand something, or need some advice, don't hesitate to ask your supervisor, lead-man, or other appropriate person depending on situation.

Help out with the 5S implementation of the gear department.

Cleaning the gear room area

Cleaning up machines
-
Putting things away in their respective locations (gages, tools, fixtures, etc. As these things get defined locations)

Coming up with ideas on how to retain the oil/mess of gear cutting

New ways to do machine setups, speeds and feeds, and other things to make a job easier, efficient, and/or more productive.

Any other duties requested by the supervisor, lead-man, engineer, and 5S team.

Listen and learn from lead-man on established new ways to set up and run machines, and other operations in the gear department.

Follow new operating procedures (documented as well as undocumented)

Report any new improvements, ideas, or suggestions to lead-man.

Report any process changes to lead-man.
