Position Summary: Bishop Kearney High School is seeking a dedicated and engaging 10th Grade World History Teacher to provide high-quality instruction that develops students’ historical knowledge, critical thinking, research, communication, and analytical skills. The teacher will create an engaging classroom environment that encourages students to understand world history through multiple perspectives and make connections between historical events and the modern world.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of world history, effective classroom management skills, a commitment to student success, and the ability to create meaningful and engaging learning experiences for high school students.
Essential Responsibilities
- Teach 10th Grade World History courses in accordance with Bishop Kearney’s curriculum and academic standards.
- Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate daily lessons that promote historical understanding and critical thinking.
- Cover major historical periods, civilizations, cultures, events, and movements throughout world history.
- Help students understand historical cause and effect, continuity and change, and connections between historical events and contemporary issues.
- Incorporate primary and secondary sources into instruction to develop students’ historical analysis and research skills.
- Teach students to evaluate evidence, identify bias and perspective, and construct evidence-based arguments.
- Develop assessments, projects, assignments, and other learning activities that measure student understanding and growth.
- Maintain accurate and timely grades, attendance, and other required student records.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students regarding their academic performance.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying academic abilities and learning styles.
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and structured classroom environment.
- Maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for all students.
- Utilize technology and digital resources appropriately to enhance instruction and student learning.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Collaborate with colleagues, department members, and school leadership regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student needs.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, department meetings, and other required school activities.
- Support the mission, values, and Catholic identity of Bishop Kearney High School.
- Maintain professional standards of conduct and serve as a positive role model for students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Curriculum and Instruction
The teacher will be responsible for developing instruction that enables students to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of significant people, places, events, cultures, and movements in world history.
- Analyze primary and secondary historical sources.
- Identify historical patterns, relationships, and cause-and-effect connections.
- Compare and contrast civilizations, cultures, governments, economies, and belief systems.
- Develop research and information-literacy skills.
- Construct well-supported historical arguments using relevant evidence.
- Communicate historical understanding effectively through written, oral, and project-based assignments.
- Connect historical developments to contemporary society and global issues.
Classroom Management
- Establish clear classroom expectations and procedures.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
- Address student behavior consistently and appropriately.
- Encourage student participation, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity.
- Follow all Bishop Kearney student conduct and classroom management policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies, Education, or a related field required.
- New York State teaching certification in Social Studies preferred or required based on applicable certification requirements.
- Experience teaching high school history or social studies preferred.
- Strong knowledge of world history and social studies curriculum.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- Ability to effectively use instructional technology.
- Commitment to working collaboratively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
Work Environment
- Classroom-based educational environment.
- Regular interaction with high school students, faculty, staff, parents, and school administrators.
- Ability to remain standing, walking, and moving throughout the classroom for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry educational materials and supplies.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with students and staff in a classroom environment.

Pay: $37,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
