About the Opportunity
A hospital in Columbus, OH is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Surgery Physician Assistant to support the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) on a locum contract. This role involves daily management of patients admitted to PCU, working closely with Cardiovascular and Transplant surgeons to manage medically and surgically complex patients following cardiac and thoracic procedures, including CABG, valve surgery, TAVR, heart transplant, lung transplant, and pre-op care for cardiac surgery. This position does not include first assist responsibilities.
The ideal candidate has strong Cardiovascular ICU experience, along with heart failure/transplant and lung transplant experience, and is comfortable managing complex postoperative care in a fast-paced surgical setting.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily care of patients admitted to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Collaborate closely with CV and Transplant surgeons on patient management
- Provide pre- and post-op care in the CVICU
- Perform procedures including chest tube removal, temporary epicardial pacing wire removal, temporary drain removal, and wound care/dressing changes
- Manage routine and complex postoperative care
Requirements
- Active Ohio PA license required
- Minimum 3+ years of experience required (no first-time locum providers)
- Cardiovascular ICU experience required
- Heart failure/transplant and lung transplant experience required
