We're looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Field Service Mechanic who takes pride in diagnosing and repairing equipment while providing exceptional service to our customers. Please Note: This position is based in Lexington, Oregon, and relocation is required. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the area to be considered.
Position Summary
As a Heavy Equipment Field Service Mechanic, you will diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy construction and utility equipment at customer job sites and in our shop. You'll be equipped with a company service truck and work independently while representing BHER with professionalism and technical expertise.
This is a full-time position with overtime opportunities and occasional overnight travel.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, powertrains, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, and electronic controls.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and failure analysis on heavy equipment and utility equipment.
- Utilize OEM diagnostic software and web-based service information, including:
- CAT Electronic Technician (ET)
- Caterpillar SIS
- Modis and other diagnostic platforms
- Read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical schematics.
- Accurately identify parts needed for repairs.
- Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding equipment condition, repair recommendations, and job progress.
- Complete work orders, service reports, labor entries, and documentation electronically.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service truck and work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and DOT regulations.
- Represent Bailey Heavy Equipment Repair with professionalism and exceptional customer service.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanic experience
- Previous heavy equipment repair experience
- Previous field service experience
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and electronic diagnostics
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and email
- Must supply personal mechanic tools
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- CDL or the ability to obtain one
- Must be willing to relocate to the Lexington, Oregon area
Preferred
- CDL with air brake endorsement
- Vocational or technical school training
- Associate degree in Diesel Technology or related field
- Experience working on Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Case, Volvo, Hitachi, and similar heavy equipment
- Experience with air conditioning diagnostics and repair
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Travel throughout the Pacific Northwest
- Occasionally stay overnight for out-of-town service calls
- Safely operate service vehicles and equipment
