Position: Expo / Food Runner
Location: Sonia’s Seafood – Miami, FL
Reports To: General Manager / Assistant Manager / Floor Manager / Kitchen Manager
Position Summary
The Expo / Food Runner is responsible for coordinating, checking, and delivering food from the kitchen to guests while ensuring accuracy, presentation, and speed of service.
This role acts as the link between the kitchen and front of house , ensuring all orders are complete, correct, and delivered quickly.
The Expo / Food Runner plays a key role in maintaining food quality, controlling ticket flow, and supporting overall restaurant efficiency.
This is a fast-paced, hands-on role that requires strong attention to detail, urgency, and communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Expo (Food Coordination & Accuracy)
- Review all tickets and coordinate food execution
- Ensure all plates are complete, accurate, and match the ticket
- Verify modifications, special requests, and table numbers
- Check food quality, portioning, and presentation before leaving kitchen
- Communicate with kitchen team to ensure order accuracy and timing
- Organize tickets and manage flow of orders during service
Food Running
- Deliver food from kitchen to guests quickly and accurately
- Ensure food is delivered to the correct table and guest
- Announce dishes clearly when delivering
- Maintain proper food handling while transporting plates
- Support speed of service during peak hours
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate constantly with BOH and FOH teams
- Notify kitchen of missing items or errors
- Update servers on order status when needed
- Help maintain smooth communication between teams
Food Quality & Seafood Awareness
- Ensure seafood dishes are presented properly and meet quality standards
- Be aware of menu items and plating standards
- Identify issues with food before it reaches the guest
- Report any quality concerns immediately
Cleanliness & Organization
- Maintain clean and organized expo area
- Keep counters, trays, and pass clean and stocked
- Ensure work area is free of clutter and hazards
- Follow cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures
Team Support
- Assist servers, bussers, and kitchen team when needed
- Help maintain flow of service during busy periods
- Support overall restaurant operations and teamwork
Operational Focus

Qualifications
- Previous restaurant experience preferred
- Experience as food runner or expo is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills
Language Requirements
- Spanish required
- Basic to intermediate English required
Schedule & Availability
- Full-time or part-time positions available
- Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be available for peak and high-volume shifts
- Ability to work 6–10+ hour shifts
