Tutor Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate, high energy and dedicated Tutor to inspire and support students across a variety of age groups and academic levels. In this role, you will help students strengthen their skills, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude toward learning.
Using Sylvan’s proven curriculum and technology-based instructional tools, you will deliver engaging, personalized learning experiences tailored to each student’s needs. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives while strengthening your teaching and instructional skills in a supportive, dynamic environment.
Center Hours:
Monday & Wednesday 3-7pm
Tuesday & Thursday 3-6pm
Saturday 10-1pm
Great option for Graduate students!
Responsibilities
- Deliver tutoring sessions in subjects such as math, reading, writing, study skills, and test preparation, including SAT preparation and homework support
- Use Sylvan’s proprietary curriculum, prepared lesson plans, and learning technology to provide individualized instruction
- Familiarity with High School Math and Science a plus
- Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages student participation
- Manage student behavior effectively and maintain a focused instructional setting.
- Adapt instructional strategies to support students with diverse learning styles and needs, including students with IEPs, 504 Plans, ADHD, or other learning differences.
- Monitor student performance and apply appropriate teaching strategies to support continuous improvement
- Communicate clearly with the Center Director regarding student progress, instructional needs, and any concerns
- Collaborate professionally with Center staff and fellow tutors.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, classroom management, childcare, or another educational setting is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage, motivate, and build positive relationships with students.
- Comfort using computers, learning technology platforms, and digital educational resources.
- Ability to manage small-group learning dynamics and maintain a supportive atmosphere.
- Dependable, patient, enthusiastic, and committed to helping students succeed.
- Curriculum development and lesson-planning experience is not required. Sylvan provides the curriculum, instructional materials, and training needed for the role.
