We are currently seeking a Food Bank Assistant to join our Food Access Services team. The Food Bank Assistant plays a vital role in our food access programs which include the Polack Food Bank, Food Bank Home Delivery, monthly Eastside Food Bank, and newly developing projects. This position is involved in major events such as the Annual Food Drive/Food Sort and holiday programs. Work is performed primarily in the Seattle office. Heavy lifting is required daily and ability and willingness to drive a commercial type van are necessary duties of the position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and unpack food deliveries which requires being able to lift and move 50 pounds of product throughout daily shift
- Restock, clean, and organize food bank as needed
- Make deliveries and pick up product within Seattle-Bellevue area by driving commercial van
- Staff food bank during distribution hours, assisting with set-up, client check-in, and customer service to clients
- Provides oversight and direction for volunteers at various sites
- Engage with food bank clients and volunteers in a warm and friendly manner, providing support to struggling clients
- Approaches community members with compassion and models trauma informed care
- De-escalate altercations and conflicts as needed
- Inputs client information into Salesforce database
- Participates in special projects such as food drives, packaging events, and other activities
- Provides weekend staffing for home delivery program, gleaning, and some special events
- Participates in team discussions and contributes to food bank’s evolution, including pilot projects such as online ordering
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in social service setting desired
- Ability to safely lift 50 lbs repeatedly
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent conflict management, written and oral skills
- Highly organized, detailed, and flexible
- Must be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds and familiar or interested in the issues of hunger and homelessness in Seattle
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- WA State Driver’s License and ability and willingness to drive a commercial style van
- WA State Food Handler’s Permit (can be obtained post-hire)
- Fluency in Mandarin a plus
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Outlook, Word, and Excel; ability and interest in learning Salesforce database
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The pay for this position is $27.06 - $33.08 an hour.
