Position Description
MicroTheory Engineering is seeking experienced Field Support Technicians to support field integration work on the FAA's Base Network and Air Traffic Control Systems program. The position supports the physical and logical integration of fiber-optic and IP-based circuits and coordinates the technical activities involved in transitioning legacy copper and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) systems to modern fiber and IP network infrastructure across the National Airspace System (NAS).
This is hands-on field work performed on-site at an FAA facility, with regional travel to other FAA sites in support of surveys and installation.
Responsibilities
- Technical integration. Support the integration, implementation, and testing of systems supporting the National Airspace System.
- Legacy-to-IP migrations. Perform technical activities throughout the network infrastructure lifecycle, from site preparation through implementation and final deployment. Support the migration of legacy TDM circuits to IP-based infrastructure, including circuit activation, cutover coordination, troubleshooting, and performance testing.
- Infrastructure support. Perform hands-on configuration, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, protocols, servers, and related hardware. Resolve complex technical issues encountered during deployments across multiple sites and geographic areas.
Required Qualifications
- College degree or technical certification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, or a related discipline. Equivalent military or field experience is accepted in place of a degree.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in telecommunications network engineering, circuit integration, or infrastructure planning.
- Working knowledge of BGP, TCP/IP, MPLS, and IPv6 as applied to telecommunications infrastructure for TDM-to-IP conversion.
- Hands-on experience with optical networking (fiber), telecom network infrastructure hardware, and server-level deployment, testing, validation, and acceptance.
- Telecommunications infrastructure experience with ground networks and air-to-ground systems and technologies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Public Trust.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading the technical integration side of large infrastructure initiatives, and the ability to apply project management methodology to delivery, compliance, and mission alignment.
- Working knowledge of cloud networking across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform to support hybrid NAS environments.
- Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent certification.
- Familiarity with FAA BNATCS protocols or comparable mission-critical government network standards.
Work Environment and Travel
Work is performed primarily on-site at FAA facilities, with additional work at contractor or integrator facilities as required. The position requires regional travel to FAA sites in support of site surveys and installation activity. Physical demands include equipment handling, work in telecommunications equipment rooms, and use of hand and diagnostic tools.
Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
