Program Specialist
Part-Time Position
Position Location: Peoria, Illinois
Make a difference in the lives of youth — become a Program Specialist with Scouting America, W.D. Boyce Council in the Peoria area. Our movement delivers engaging, character‑building programs to youth in grades K–5, many from at‑risk neighborhoods, and we are seeking passionate leaders to help expand this important work.
Duties of the Position:
- Lead weekly after‑school programs as a mentor to youth in grades K–5 at local schools or community centers.
- Plan and conduct fun, hands‑on activities that support Scouting values.
- Track attendance and youth achievements each week and submit data promptly.
- Plan outdoor activities in coordination with your supervisor.
- Build relationships with community partners to expand Scouting’s reach.
Position Requirements:
- Ability to interact enthusiastically and effectively with youth and adults.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Excellent punctuality and accountability, including providing at least 24‑hour notice for absences.
- Scouting background is not required, though it is helpful.
- Personal transportation is required.
- Ability to perform light lifting and participate in physical activity (running, jumping) during youth programs.
- Applicants must be 21 years or older.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Work Days and Hours:
- School-year programs run for one hour after school, plus 15 minutes before and after for preparation and cleanup.
- You may be assigned to multiple sites per day.
- All program supplies are provided through the Scout office.
- A mandatory monthly meeting is held for Program Specialists and leaders to coordinate schedules and receive supplies.
- Average weekly hours: 5–10. (Currently two program sites, with more planned.)
Compensation:
- Compensation starts at $16/hour.
- Required training time is paid.
