-
High-volume Labor & Delivery unit averaging 20 births and 30–40 admissions per 24 hours, with approximately 40 visits per day across 20 rooms
-
Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care; high-risk patients under 16 weeks are also cared for on the high-risk maternity unit
-
Unit includes an obstetrical triage area for patient screening, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, medication administration, and outpatient procedures
-
Scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage are performed on the unit
-
Double labor assignments occur daily on this unit
-
Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
-
Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
-
Float required as needed to the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
-
No on-call requirement
-
EMR: Epic (experience required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication
-
13-week minimum contract; extensions up to 26 weeks are accepted
-
Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may be submitted with license/certifications pending)
-
Current certifications required: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP
-
Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 3 years preferred
-
Experience in a high-volume setting with greater than 300 births per month is required
-
Proficiency in circulating for OR/C-section, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care required
-
Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
-
Previous permanent, PRN, or EP staff employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must have a 12-month gap before being eligible to apply as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
-
This is a fast-paced, high-acuity unit that is busier than many comparable L&D settings — nurses with experience in large, high-volume environments are strongly preferred
-
Candidates with OR circulate experience are strongly preferred given the volume of Cesarean births performed
-
Orientation is 24 hours, held weekly; pre-start modules (approximately 8–10 hours) must be completed before the first day and annually thereafter
-
Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
-
RTO is not permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; RTO of 7 days or fewer may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday — additional RTO requires facility approval
-
Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
-
Travel pairs are allowed; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
-
Blue scrubs are provided by the facility
-
First-time travelers are accepted, provided they have experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting
