Job Overview
This is a paid overnight sleep shift supporting my parents in their home in Long Beach. Our private residence is located in the CSULB / Seal Beach area. A private bedroom is provided, and the caregiver is expected to sleep overnight and respond only if assistance is needed or if my mother's continuous glucose monitor (CGM) alarm sounds.
The primary focus at this time is overnight support for my mother, who is insulin-dependent and wears a FreeStyle Libre CGM with real-time alerts. Family members also receive these alerts and are available by phone if additional guidance is needed. This position does not require making insulin dosing decisions or exercising independent medical judgment. The caregiver will follow a written care protocol developed by our family and her physician.
The initial schedule is Thursday through Saturday nights (approximately 24 hours per week), with the opportunity for additional overnight shifts or expanded responsibilities in the future for the right candidate.

- Respond promptly if the CGM (Libre) alarm sounds or if assistance is requested.
- Follow the family's written protocol for responding to blood sugar episodes.

- Provide general overnight supervision and support as needed.
- Communicate any concerns or changes in condition to designated family members.
- Call emergency services when directed by the written protocol or if a medical emergency occurs.
- Complete a brief shift log documenting any overnight events or concerns.
- Maintain a safe, calm, respectful, and supportive environment throughout the overnight shift.

- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Willingness to complete a paid orientation and training period, including instruction on the family's written overnight care protocols.
