Milkweed Creative + Breakfast Wine LLC is an independent restaurant group located in Kansas City, Missouri, that includes Earl’s Premier + Provisions, Bacaro Primo and recently opened Sea Capitán Cocina Costera.
We are hiring for an hourly Shift Supervisor at Bacaro Primo.
Bacaro Primo is an Italian-inspired neighborhood restaurant in Kansas City, rooted in simple, thoughtful cooking, a strong sense of place, and warm, welcoming hospitality. Drawing influence from traditional bacari and coastal Italian dining, the menu highlights seasonal ingredients, handmade pastas, and a focused wine and cocktail program. Bacaro Primo is built around a collaborative team culture and an approach to hospitality that is both refined and approachable.
Scope & General Purpose: The Shift Supervisor an hourly front-of-house leadership position responsible for supporting the flow, hospitality, and standards of service during each shift. This role functions as a shift manager two to three shifts per week and as an elevated host presence one to two shifts per week.
The Shift Supervisor is expected to lead from the floor, support the host stand, guide the guest experience, assist the service team, and help ensure each shift runs smoothly, professionally, and in line with company standards.
This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, guest-focused, calm under pressure, and comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on service support.
Schedule: Varying schedule, across business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Management Structure: Reports to General Manager
Shift Management Responsibilities: When scheduled as the shift manager, the role is responsible for overseeing front-of-house operations during service. Responsibilities include:
- Lead pre-shift meetings and communicate service notes, reservations, staffing updates, menu changes, and expectations for the shift.
- Oversee the floor during service and ensure the team is providing attentive, polished, and consistent hospitality.
- Support servers, bartenders, server assistants, hosts, and other FOH team members as needed throughout the shift.
- Monitor service pacing, table turns, guest wait times, reservation flow, and overall dining room energy.
- Address guest concerns or service issues in the moment with professionalism, urgency, and care.
- Make decisions during service that support the guest experience, team efficiency, and business needs.
- Communicate clearly with the kitchen, bar, host stand, and management team throughout service.
- Ensure company policies, service standards, appearance standards, and hospitality expectations are being followed.
- Coach employees in the moment when needed and communicate any larger performance or conduct concerns to the General Manager.
- Assist with opening, closing, and shift transition duties.
- Complete required manager logs, shift notes, checklists, incident reports, or other documentation as assigned.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and guest-ready restaurant throughout service.
Host Stand Responsibilities: When scheduled in a host-focused role, this position acts as an elevated host and guest experience lead. Responsibilities include:
- Own the door, host stand, reservation book, and first impression of the restaurant.
- Greet guests warmly and professionally upon arrival.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, waitlists, seating assignments, and special requests.
- Build thoughtful seating plans that balance guest experience, server sections, pacing, and operational needs.
- Communicate accurate wait times and manage guest expectations with confidence and warmth.
- Recognize regulars, VIPs, special occasions, and important guest notes.
- Assist with coat check, menus, table readiness, guest transitions, and overall flow of the dining room.
- Support the host team with training, organization, and execution of host stand standards.
- Communicate with servers and managers regarding seating, pacing, guest needs, and table availability.
- Help maintain a calm, welcoming, and organized front door presence during busy services.
Guest Experience
- Create a welcoming and professional first and last impression for all guests.
- Anticipate guest needs and respond with urgency and care.
- Handle guest concerns discreetly and thoughtfully.
- Maintain awareness of the dining room and step in where needed to improve the guest experience.
- Help ensure hospitality feels consistent, personal, and aligned with the restaurant’s standards.
Team Leadership
- Lead by example with professionalism, composure, and strong communication.
- Support a positive, respectful, and accountable team environment.
- Help train and develop hosts and other FOH team members as assigned.
- Communicate clearly with the General Manager and leadership team regarding shift notes, guest feedback, employee concerns, and operational needs.
- Model strong attendance, punctuality, appearance, and service standards.
Requirements:
· Prior restaurant, hospitality, host, serving, or management experience required.
· Prior experience managing reservations, seating flow, or guest relations strongly preferred.
· Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to remain calm and professional during high-volume service.
· Comfortable leading a team while also working hands-on in service.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to give direction, receive feedback, and follow through on expectations.
· Familiarity with reservation platforms, POS systems, and restaurant technology preferred.
· Professional, positive, and team oriented attitude
· Comfortable standing/walking for 8+ hours, and able to bend, push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs.
