We are seeking an automotive body prepper that plays a crucial role in preparing vehicles for paint, cosmetic repair, or final detailing. This includes sanding, taping, masking, buffing, and ensuring surfaces are clean and properly prepped to meet high-quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Sand and feather automotive surfaces for paint application
· Mask and tape vehicles accurately to protect non-painted areas
· Clean panels thoroughly to ensure surface readiness
· Apply primers, sealers, or adhesion promoters as directed
· Move vehicles in and out of prep/paint booths and staging areas
· Inspect body panels for imperfections or contamination prior to paint
· Assist painters and body technicians with repair flow
· Maintain cleanliness of work area, tools, and safety equipment
· Follow all company safety and quality standards
Qualifications
· Previous experience in auto body prep, collision repair, or reconditioning preferred
· Familiarity with sanding blocks, DA sanders, masking materials, and prep chemicals
· Understanding of automotive paint processes is a plus
· Must be dependable, detail-focused, and a team player
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
· 18 years of age or older
Preferred Skills:
o Experience working in dealership or high-volume recon settings
o Knowledge of PDR, buffing, or detailing is a plus
o I-CAR or ASE certification helpful but not required
Education:
o Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
Working conditions
Work Environment:
· Physical Setting: Automotive body prep work is performed primarily in auto body shops, reconditioning centers, or dedicated paint prep areas. Depending on the facility, it may include both indoor and semi-outdoor workspaces with ventilation and dust-control systems.
· Noise & Safety: The environment includes moderate to high noise levels, exposure to dust, chemicals, and paint fumes. Proper safety equipment (PPE) such as respirators, gloves, and protective eyewear is required.
Physical requirements
· The role involves repetitive motion, standing, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs), and often working on tight deadlines to prepare vehicles for paint or delivery.
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
