We're seeking a compassionate Behavioral Health Specialist to join an innovative, multidisciplinary mobile treatment team that provides intensive, community-based mental health services to adults experiencing homelessness, serious mental illness, substance use disorders, and involvement with hospitals, shelters, or the criminal justice system.
This is more than a traditional outpatient role- you'll work directly in the community, partnering with participants to promote recovery, housing stability, wellness, and long-term independence through person-centered, trauma-informed care.
What You'll Do
- Deliver individualized behavioral health services in community settings, including shelters, supportive housing, hospitals, and other locations throughout New York City.
- Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and develop collaborative, recovery-focused treatment plans.
- Provide individual counseling using evidence-based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
- Support participants with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders through engagement, education, relapse prevention, and wellness planning.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, peer specialists, and community partners to coordinate integrated care.
- Assist individuals in accessing housing, healthcare, public benefits, vocational resources, education, and other essential community services.
- Advocate for participants within healthcare systems, shelters, courts, correctional settings, and community agencies.
- Participate in crisis intervention, outreach, and engagement efforts while helping individuals remain connected to treatment.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in electronic health records and other required systems.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, professional development, and rotating on-call responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- LMSW or license-eligible candidates are strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with adults experiencing serious mental illness, co-occurring substance use disorders, homelessness, or other complex behavioral health needs.
- Experience providing community-based, outreach, ACT, IMT, or mobile behavioral health services is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered treatment approaches.
- Excellent crisis intervention, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Why Join Our Team?
- Meaningful work that directly improves lives and strengthens communities.
- Collaborative multidisciplinary team including psychiatry, nursing, social work, peer support, and rehabilitation professionals.
- Opportunity to practice innovative, community-based behavioral healthcare.
- Ongoing clinical supervision, professional development, and training.
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- Supportive culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and person-centered care.
