Essential Job Functions:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Juvenile and Family Services is seeking a legal intern to conduct legal research and writing on family law, domestic violence, guardianship, juvenile justice, and child welfare. Required writing may include materials such as memoranda, proposed rules or statutes, and website content.
Time-period and Expected Hours:
The work will be completed upon reaching 180 hours or 90 days, whichever comes first. Hours are flexible and can range from 15 to 40 hours per week, depending on intern availability, up to a maximum of 180 total hours or 90 days, whichever comes first. Work will be performed at the Maryland Judicial Center in Annapolis, MD. Travel to circuit courthouses may be required for part of this internship.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and satisfactory completion of at least 1 year of law school.
Experience:
Working toward J.D. degree or law school graduate.
Enthusiasm for learning about family and juvenile law.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent legal research and writing skills
Effective communicator, both written and oral.
Ability to create clear, concise, and error-free documents.
Excellent customer service skills. Strong organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Availability to work during business hours. Exact days and times are flexible.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
