Job Summary:
We are seeking a Lead Slack Platform Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and enterprise-wide implementation of Slack as the organization's primary collaboration platform. This individual will play a critical leadership role in a high-visibility digital transformation initiative, responsible for defining the technical roadmap, governance framework, security standards, and implementation strategy for Slack Enterprise Grid across a global enterprise.
As the technical lead, you will partner closely with Infrastructure, Security, DevOps, and Production Operations teams to build a scalable, secure, and highly integrated collaboration platform supporting tens of thousands of users. This is an opportunity to build a platform from the ground up while helping shape the future collaboration experience across the organization.
This is a contract opportunity with strong potential for long-term extension or full-time conversion. Candidates must be able to work onsite four days per week in Pittsburgh, PA or Lake Mary, FL.
Key Responsibilities:
Platform Strategy & Architecture: Define the technical vision, architecture, and implementation roadmap for Slack Enterprise Grid, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term sustainability across the enterprise.
Enterprise Deployment Leadership: Lead the deployment of Slack Enterprise Grid across multiple phases, partnering with engineering, infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders to deliver a successful enterprise rollout.
Governance & Security: Design and implement enterprise governance standards, including workspace architecture, channel lifecycle management, permissions, retention policies, compliance controls, and security best practices.
Platform Integrations: Architect and oversee integrations between Slack and enterprise applications using APIs, automation, DevOps tooling, and workflow solutions to improve collaboration and operational efficiency.
Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and mentorship to platform engineers, establish engineering standards, conduct architecture reviews, and help build a high-performing engineering team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Infrastructure, Identity & Access Management, Security, Production Operations, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless platform adoption and operational readiness.
Operational Excellence: Establish monitoring, automation, documentation, and operational processes to support a stable, secure, and highly available collaboration platform.
Qualifications:
10+ years of engineering or platform infrastructure experience
4+ years of hands-on experience administering and engineering Slack Enterprise Grid
Demonstrated experience leading enterprise collaboration platform deployments (Microsoft teams to slack)
Strong experience with Slack administration, governance, security policies, channel management, permissions, and compliance
Experience designing and implementing Slack integrations using APIs, automation frameworks, and DevOps practices
Experience partnering with Infrastructure, Security, Identity Management, and Platform Engineering teams
Strong understanding of enterprise collaboration platforms, cloud technologies, and platform engineering best practices
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Experience:
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise collaboration environments serving thousands of users
Background with enterprise messaging or email platforms
Experience building automation using scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell
Familiarity with Production Operations or Platform Support organizations
Experience within highly regulated enterprise environments, such as financial services
