As a Material Handler, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of materials within the organization. Your responsibilities will include receiving, storing, and distributing materials, as well as handling inventory management tasks. You will work closely with various departments to support production, shipping, and other operational processes, ensuring that materials are readily available for use when needed. Responsibilities:
Receiving and Inspecting Materials:
- Receive incoming shipments of materials, verifying their accuracy and condition.
- Inspect materials for defects, damages, or discrepancies and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
Material Storage and Organization:
- Store materials in designated locations, ensuring proper handling, labeling, and inventory management.
- Maintain a neat and organized storage area to facilitate easy access and efficient material retrieval.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor material levels and update inventory records to maintain accurate stock counts.
- Coordinate with the inventory control team to conduct regular audits and resolve any discrepancies.
Material Distribution:
- Fulfill material requests from different departments and ensure timely and accurate distribution.
- Prepare materials for shipment, ensuring appropriate packaging and labeling.
Equipment Operation:
- Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or repair needs.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while handling materials and operating equipment.
- Comply with company policies and procedures related to material handling and warehouse operations.
- Experience working in a strong safety culture.
Collaboration:
- Collaborate with production, logistics, and procurement teams to support the timely flow of materials required for manufacturing or distribution processes.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth coordination of tasks.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and suggest ideas to enhance material handling efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications or vocational training in material handling is a plus.
- Proven experience as a material handler or in a similar warehouse/logistics role is desirable.
- Proficient in operating material handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, with proper certification preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of forklift experience required. Experience handling a broad range of heavy materials, odd-sized pallets and heavily weight steel components preferred.
- Familiarity with inventory management software and basic computer skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
