WE ARE NOW HIRING for a Full Time Cook on the Day shift.
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving a nutritious meal for a variety of dietary needs, while following food safety requirements. The cook supervises the work of Dietary Aides when the department supervisor is not available. Prior experience working in A Nursing Home or Assisted Living preferred, but not required. We will train the right fit for our team! Rotating weekends and holidays.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND AUTHORITY:

Responsible for keeping foods safe, using time and temperature control for safety guidelines.

Reviews menus, production sheets, and menu extensions concerning quantities and types of meats, vegetables, soups, salad, sandwiches, and desserts to be prepared and served.

Follows standardized recipes exactly for all food prepared and notifies supervisor if recipes need to be adjusted.

Follows resident’s diet orders and honors resident preferences when serving meals by thoroughly reading the tray card.

Must be knowledgeable of food allergies and avoid serving residents foods that contain those allergens.

Cleans and sanitizes food contact surfaces and work area routinely, ensuring the highest degree of sanitation.

Thaws, cooks, serves, and cools foods in accordance with food safety guidelines.

Plans cooking schedule so that foods will be ready at specified time.

Puts away food deliveries in cooler and freezer.

In the absence of the Director of Nutrition Services.

Fills out call-in slips for absences and replaces staff.

Notifies the appropriate person, e.g. maintenance staff, Charge Nurse, Reinhart, administrator, of broken equipment or emergency situations.

Ensures Dietary Aides are following established policies and procedures relating to food safety, personal hygiene, etc, and reports non-compliance to Director of Nutrition Services

Reports any issues to Director of Nutrition Services in a timely manner.
EXPERIENCE AND SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

At least 1-3 years of commercial cooking experience preferred. Can be trained on the job.

Must be knowledgeable of food regulations, food safety, and personal hygiene requirements.
- Demonstrates initiative, dependability, and leadership qualities.

Ability to operate knives, blenders, mixer, grinder, grill overs, garbage disposal, and other standard foodservice equipment.
