Facilities Technician
Summary:
Horses of Hope Oregon is looking for a skilled facilities technician to join our team. The Facility Technician is responsible for supporting the maintenance, operation, and appearance of the equine facility and surrounding property. This is a hands-on position focused on labor, maintenance, grounds keeping, equipment operation, and facility upkeep. The Facility Technician works under the direction of the Facility Manager and assists in ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for horses, staff, clients, and visitors.
This position offers opportunities for professional growth and development within facility operations and management. Employees will work closely with the Facility Manager to learn facility systems, equipment maintenance, project management, and property operations.
Job Duties:
Facility Maintenance
- Assist with the repair and maintenance of barn structures, stalls, runs, gates, fencing, and facility equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe tack rooms, feed rooms, storage areas, and common spaces.
- Assist in maintaining indoor arena footing and facility grounds.
- Identify maintenance issues and report them to the Facility Manager.
Grounds & Property Upkeep
- Perform routine grounds keeping including mowing, weed control, brush removal, and landscaping.
- Assist with fence construction, repairs, and maintenance.
- Maintain trails, driveways, parking areas, and common-use spaces.
- Help ensure the property remains clean, safe, and presentable at all times.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Safely operate equipment including tractors, forklifts, lawn mowers, utility vehicles, arena drags, and other maintenance equipment.
- Perform routine cleaning, fueling, and basic preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Report equipment issues and maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist with equipment inspections and service scheduling.
Waste & Material Management
- Assist with manure disposal and waste management operations.
- Help receive, unload, organize, and store materials and supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels of maintenance supplies, tools, fuel, shavings, gravel, fencing materials, and other facility resources.
- Assist with stocking and organizing maintenance areas.
Facility Improvement Projects
- Assist with construction, repair, and facility improvement projects.
- Support installation of fencing, gates, drainage systems, and other infrastructure improvements.
- Work alongside contractors and service providers when directed by the Facility Manager.
Safety & Team Support
- Follow all facility safety procedures and operational standards.
- Participate in equipment training and certification programs as required.
- Assist during severe weather events, power outages, and facility-related emergencies.
- Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to learn.
Qualifications:
- Experience in property maintenance, construction, landscaping, agriculture, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate tractors, forklifts, lawn equipment, and utility vehicles.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn facility systems and maintenance procedures.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while following direction from supervisors.
- Experience around equine facilities is helpful but not required.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Must have valid Oregon drivers license.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, digging, bending, kneeling, climbing, and operating equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions year-round.
- Ability to safely navigate uneven terrain and active farm environments.
Growth Opportunity
This position is designed as a developmental role within facility operations. Employees who demonstrate reliability, leadership, technical skills, and a strong understanding of facility management may have opportunities to advance into senior facility positions and future Facility Manager roles. The facilities technician will report to our current Facilities Manager.
