Job Overview
Responsible for supporting the Consumer Lending team by reviewing incoming loan applications, preparing complete and accurate loan files, and coordinating required documentation for underwriting. This role serves as a critical first step in the loan process by ensuring applications are properly set up, compliant with initial credit policy requirements, and ready for efficient underwriting review.
The Consumer Loan Clerk works closely with branch advisors, dealership staff, and underwriters to gather missing information, order required third-party reports and manage document flow to streamline the loan decisioning process.
Principal Accountabilities
Support Consumer Lending efficiency and service level goals by ensuring loan applications are complete, accurate, and properly documented prior to underwriting review.
Perform initial file intake and review to identify missing or incomplete information and proactively communicate with sales partners to obtain required items.
Coordinate and manage the ordering of third-party documentation (appraisals, title, flood certifications, VOI, etc.) in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.
Partner with the underwriting team to ensure a smooth workflow of incoming documentation, improving turnaround times and overall loan processing efficiency.
Provide professional and timely communication to internal and external partners while maintaining a high level of customer service.
Ensure adherence to compliance standards including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and actively protect confidentiality of customer and account information.
Duties
- Review incoming consumer loan applications for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to initial credit policy requirements.
- Identify missing documentation and follow up with branch advisors and dealership partners to obtain required information.
- Perform initial file setup and ensure loan packages are organized and ready for underwriting review.
- Order and track third-party reports and required documentation, including:
- Appraisals
- Title work
- Flood certifications
- Verification of Income (VOI)
- Credit reports and other supporting documents
- Monitor incoming documentation and ensure timely delivery into the loan file.
- Maintain communication with sales partners regarding outstanding conditions and documentation needs.
- Assist in managing pipeline workflow to ensure loans progress efficiently through the underwriting process.
- Work closely with underwriters to prioritize files and resolve outstanding issues.
- Ensure documentation meets internal standards prior to submission for final underwriting decision.
- Provide high-quality customer service and maintain professional communication at all times.
- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail with minimal error rates.
- Assist with department reporting, tracking, or administrative functions as needed.

Qualifications & Skills
- 1–3 years of banking, lending, or financial services experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic understanding of consumer lending products and loan documentation preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to learn systems, processes, and regulatory requirements related to consumer lending.
