Primary Purpose:
Strengthen districtwide attendance systems by coordinating supplemental professional development for campus staff on attendance intervention strategies
and chronic absenteeism prevention (Title II, Part A – Supporting Effective Instruction); and by leading student- and family-centered attendance support,
truancy prevention capacity-building, and supervision of district Student Wellness Specialist(s) to promote student engagement, school connectedness, and
equitable access to education (Title IV, Part A – Student Support and Academic Enrichment). This position provides supplemental programming,
professional development, and intervention capacity beyond state-required attendance compliance functions This position is grant-funded through a
combination of federal Title II, Part A and Title IV, Part A funds. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of grant funding. Time and Effort
documentation is required.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):
Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferred. Valid Texas Educator Certification preferred. Minimum of three years of campus-level
administrative, counseling, or student services experience. Experience with Texas compulsory attendance laws, truancy prevention, dropout intervention,
chronic absenteeism strategies, or student and family engagement preferred.
Major Responsibilities:
Title II, Part A — Professional Development & Educator Effectiveness (approx. 40%)
1. Design, coordinate, and deliver supplemental professional development for campus administrators and staff on compulsory attendance laws,
truancy prevention strategies, chronic absenteeism identification, and evidence-based intervention practices — in alignment with the District
Improvement Plan and ESSA professional development standards. All professional development funded through Title II, Part A is supplemental to
state-required training.
2. Train campus staff on trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to supporting students experiencing barriers to attendance, including
students affected by housing instability, mental health concerns, or family crises.
3. Assist the Director of Student Affairs in developing and presenting training resources, programming materials, and campus support tools related to
attendance, student wellness, and family engagement practices.
4. Review and analyze districtwide attendance and chronic absenteeism data to identify trends, inform professional development priorities, and
support equitable, evidence-based campus practices.
Title IV, Part A — Safe and Healthy Students / Student Engagement (approx. 60%)
5. Coordinate districtwide supplemental attendance support systems and truancy prevention programming that extend beyond state-required
attendance compliance activities; assist the Director of Student Affairs with attendance-related compliance functions as assigned, with the Director
retaining responsibility for state-mandated compliance outcomes.
6. Monitor districtwide attendance data and campus intervention practices to support efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism, improve student
engagement, and promote positive school climate connections.
7. Supervise district Student Wellness Specialist(s), providing direction, support, and oversight of their case management, campus outreach, and
student/family engagement activities.
8. Collaborate with campuses, families, and outside agencies to address attendance barriers and support supplemental intervention efforts for
students and families, including coordination with community organizations and referral to court liaison processes managed by the Director or
locally-funded staff.
9. Support the Director of Student Affairs with districtwide leaver tracking and dropout prevention efforts, assisting with coordination and data
review; PEIMS reporting and leaver compliance decisions remain the responsibility of the Director and designated PEIMS staff.
10. Assist the Director with attendance compliance documentation and court-related coordination as assigned; the Director and locally-funded
Specialist, Student Records & Transfers retain primary responsibility for truancy court case management and compulsory attendance enforcement
documentation.
11. Support parent, guardian, and family engagement and learning opportunities related to attendance, wellness, and student success — including
coordination of community partnerships that provide integrated support for students and families.
12. Assist in responding to parent and student concerns related to attendance and student welfare, including participation in complaint resolution and
mediation as assigned.
13. Collaborate with district departments, campus administrators, and legal counsel as appropriate to address attendance and student welfare matters
and ensure alignment with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
