The Security Officer (Risk Control Officer) primary responsibility is preserving and protecting life and property on West Palm Beach Housing Authority (WPBHA) owned properties and, by inference, the Housing Center of the Palm Beaches (HCPB). Work involves security sweeps, proactive deterrent of crime and incidents, and addressing safety and security issues. This position provides at all times an armed and uniformed presence and must be visible to residents and staff. This position is paid for through federally funded monies.
- High school education or equivalent.

Active Florida Department of Agriculture "D" and "G" licenses.

Complete all required training provided by the WPBHA.

Valid Florida Driver's License.

Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Training within the first six (6) months of employment (The agency will provide training).

Understand Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Practices (The agency will provide training).

Proficient in speaking and writing English

Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Must be certified for 9mm firearm.

Applicant must pass all portions of the pre-employment background check, physical, physiological exam, and interview.

Serves as the WPBHA/HCPB front-line armed security personnel for all safety and security operations. Patrols a designated area by foot, ATV, bicycle, or vehicle. Performs building, property, resident, and staff safety checks and responds to all situations, calls, or emergencies that may pose a safety or security threat to WPBHA/HCPB residents, visitors, or staff.
- Works with city, county, state, and federal law enforcement, fire rescue, and emergency management services.
- Responds to reported complaints, violations of rules, regulations, and policies.
- Ensures residents, staff, and property are protected from crime, damage, intrusion, loiterers, trespassers, criminal behavior, civil disorder, or other safety issues.
- Assist asset management and property managers with safety and security checks of properties and buildings.
- Provides timely, accurate incident reports and daily activity logs to the Risk Control Supervisor and Director.
- Provides security at special events, and meetings
- Responds to natural disasters, civil disorder, and other emergencies.
- Assists with fraud investigations.

Assists the department Supervisor and Director with fleet management.
- Responds to after-hour emergencies, incidents, civil disorder, terrorism, and natural and man-made disasters.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Security Licensing
The agency at no cost to the employee will pay for full-time employee’s annual firearms recertification, D and G license renewals.
Paid Time-Off Holidays (Any holidays worked is paid at Double Time:
New Year’s Day, MLK, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day following Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Floating Holiday (Determined by the Executive Director).
Shift Differential Pay:
New Year’s Eve (December 31st) is paid at Double Time the Hourly Rate.
Paid Time-Off (PTO)
After 6 months of service full-time employees will revive 8 hours in vacation and sick days per month which are cumulative.
After 5 years of service full-time employees will receive 12.5 hours in vacation and 8 hours in sick days per month which are cumulative.
Retirement
Full-time employees after 1 year of service will receive at no cost to the employee a 7% contribution from the agency. Employees will be fully vested on their 5-year anniversary. Partial vesting for years 1-4.
Health Insurance
The agency offers to employee’s health insurance coverage which can be expended to spouses and qualifying dependents. The agency covers 80% of the cost of the plan. Health insurance plans start on the first of the month after your initial hire date.
Life Insurance
At no cost to the employee the agency will cover 1 time the employee’s annual salary.
