American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3/4 NICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of high-acuity neonatal ICU experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

53-bed NICU unit with an average census of 58, located within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital

High-acuity neonatal patient population including respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PDA, PPHN), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/metabolic diagnoses (NEC, NAS, sepsis, TORCH infections, and more)

Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3

12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (1900–0700), 36 hours per week

Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) within each 6-week scheduling cycle

Floating may be required to Neonatal PCU or as a helping hand to Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds unit; candidates with prior experience in those areas may float in a fuller capacity

No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize a traveler, they may be floated to similar units

EMR: Epic (experience required)

IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitoring: Philips

Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS and NRP certifications required

Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience; most recent experience must be within the last year

Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment

Epic EMR experience required

Required skills include: vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube management, CRRT experience, baby-side ECMO experience, EVD and Camino device (ICP/temp monitoring) experience, sedation and analgesic drip management, Alaris and Medfusion pump management, foley insertion, g-tube/j-tube management, feeding tubes, epidurals, PCAs, aseptic and sterile technique, and bedside procedures (manager has shown flexibility on EVD, ICP, ECMO, and CRRT experience)

Comprehensive departmental support includes a Unit Secretary, Charge Nurse, IV/VAT/PICC Team, Resource Nurse, Respiratory Therapy, Intensivist, Residents, APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, Unit-Based Educators (AM and PM), and 6 Clinical Supervisors — all available 24/7 where noted

Orientation consists of a NEO orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Scheduling is on a 6-week cycle based on unit needs; the Clinical Supervisor provides dates of need after the core team schedule is completed

Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to work assigned holidays, including the day of and the eve and/or day after, on an every-other-holiday basis while contracted

RTO requires manager approval; candidates with significant time-off needs may be required to extend their contract to accommodate

Scrub color is Navy; long-sleeve shirts are permitted but must be solid Navy or White; scrubs must not be tight, and pediatric-friendly scrub tops are preferred — no other organizational branded attire

'Bare Below Elbow' policy is enforced in the nursery: no watches, jewelry (permanent or otherwise), rings, or artificial nails

Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered

First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to manager approval depending on current unit staffing
