JOB TITLE: Supervisor, Environmental Services
CONTRACT DURATION: 6 months to start – Possibility of extension or conversion of contract based on attendance, performance, facility need, etc.
LOCATION: Modesto, California
PAY: 37-40/hr
SHIFT: Onsite, Mid Shift or Night Shift
2:30 PM to 11 PM
or
11:00 PM to 7:30 Am
ONBOARDING TIME: Expect 2–3 weeks between offer to start date
EQUIPMENT: All equipment provided
Job Description and Requirements:
The Supervisor, Environmental Services oversees the daily operations of the Environmental Services (EVS) department to ensure assigned buildings and patient care areas remain clean, safe, and operationally efficient. This leadership role is responsible for supervising staff, coordinating daily workflows, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting a high standard of environmental services throughout the medical center.
The ideal candidate has strong EVS leadership experience, excellent operational and organizational skills, and the ability to coach staff while driving productivity and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
· Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Services department across assigned buildings and work areas
· Develop staff schedules, review timekeeping records, and adjust staffing levels to ensure adequate department coverage
· Conduct daily rounds to monitor cleanliness, productivity, safety, and adherence to department standards
· Coach, mentor, and support EVS staff through performance management, accountability, and ongoing development
· Assist with hiring, onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and staff training
· Monitor labor utilization, staffing productivity, and operational priorities to maximize department efficiency
· Coordinate with nursing, facilities, and other departments to resolve operational issues and support service recovery
· Manage department supplies, equipment, inventory, and operational records
· Ensure compliance with organizational policies, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, OSHA requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations
· Identify workflow gaps and implement standard work or process improvements to enhance operational performance
· Assist with budget monitoring, expense management, and corrective action plans as needed
· Prepare operational reports, monitor department metrics, analyze trends, and escalate complex concerns to leadership
· Support emergency response activities and assist frontline EVS staff during peak operational periods when necessary
Job Requirements:
· High School Diploma or GED required
· Minimum 5 years of recent Environmental Services or related operations experience required
· Experience supervising staff, including scheduling, coaching, performance management, and accountability required
· Experience managing Environmental Services workflows, staffing, and department operations required
· Ability to develop staff schedules and review timekeeping records required
· Knowledge of applicable local, state, federal, TJC, and departmental regulations required
· Experience with operational issue resolution, service recovery, and cross-department collaboration required
· Ability to manage labor utilization, productivity, inventory, and operational priorities
· Proficiency with department-related software and computer applications
· Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience supporting hospital or healthcare Environmental Services teams
· Experience with Lean, continuous improvement, or process improvement methodologies
· Experience assisting with budgets, expense monitoring, and corrective action planning
· Experience leading staff meetings, orientation, training, and competency programs
· Experience preparing reports and analyzing operational performance metrics
