Hours: This is a full-time position with benefits. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm and some evenings and weekend hours may be required.

Department Overview:
NYCID's Workforce Initiatives department seeks to ensure that all young people ages 14 to 29 have access to alternative pathways to high school completion, essential training and credentialing opportunities, access to post-secondary opportunities, college access, and personal and professional development that results in a career pathway and a job that pays a family-sustaining wage.
Program Overview:
YouthBuild IMPACT is a comprehensive youth and community development program for youth ages 18-24, committed to transforming the lives of Staten Island’s young people while addressing critical issues affecting underserved communities, including education, employment, housing, crime prevention, and leadership development. Participants work toward earning their High School Equivalency Diploma while gaining hands-on occupational skills, industry-recognized certifications, career readiness training, and experience through various vocational pathways.
General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of YouthBuild IMPACT and in conformance with the personnel policies and procedures set forth by NYCID, the Career Developer is responsible for preparing participants for the workforce and identifying and securing career placement by matching the skills of a participant with an appropriate employer. Provide guidance and higher-level employment services to students to enhance their career path, equipping them with knowledge and resources that will enable them to ultimately secure a career opportunity consistent with their interests and goals. Additionally, responsible for networking in the private and public sectors to identify, create and follow-up on internships and career opportunities. Career Developer will also develop an employment partnership network.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in career/job development working directly with at-promise participants or related populations. Certificates in Workforce development or other related forms of job development are preferred. Candidates working towards a bachelor’s degree in a related field are welcome.
The candidate should bring to the position:
● Ability to motivate, engage and develop rapport quickly (especially with young adults)
● Ability to work flexible hours and work with minimal supervision
● Knowledge of Sales and Marketing and Case management
● Understanding of Private Sector Processes
● Knowledge of youth development principles and workforce development systems
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Conduct comprehensive assessments of participants designed to evaluate work history, education, job skills, personal qualifications, support service needs and vocational interests;
● Develop an Individual Employment and/or Career Plan designed to assist each participant in determining appropriate steps toward meeting employment, training and educational goals.
● Utilizing a curriculum to teach job readiness and soft skills including solid work ethic, time management, positive attitude, good communication, problem solving and analytical skills which will assist students become employable and productive law-abiding citizens.
● Develop and maintain a post-secondary education and employment database for tracking student placements
● Develop an employment partnership network including human resource representatives of companies, workforce development centers, training programs and colleges and universities.
● In collaboration with the Workforce One Job Center and employment network set up career exploration workshops and motivation activities; identify and arrange for guest speakers, company tours, job shadow experiences, and mock interviews.
● Counsel participants on viable employment and vocational options providing current labor market information; Develop a relationship with students, including an understanding of their outside supports to assess their job and career goals and immediate needs.
● Implement a systematic placement effort, working with education, training institutions, businesses, and other entities that provide post-program opportunities for participants. Make appropriate and timely referrals of participants to potential providers.
● Serve as a liaison between the student and employer and facilitate appropriate worker to supervisor relationships. This includes Pathways to Graduation Internship partnership.
● Develop and lead the YouthBuild IMPACT Alumni Council.
● Follow-up with participants on an ongoing basis and evaluate participant progress based upon each individual’s employment plan; After graduation provide frequent follow-up during the initial 30 days of job placement up to 12 months to ensure employment success.
● With youth and alumni attend job fairs throughout Staten Island and New York City.
● Keep accurate records of placement efforts and portfolios of each participant.
● Lead daily student meetings and promote good attendance and daily structure.
● Assist with implementing strategies that will motivate and inspire students to succeed.
● Attend department and agency staff meetings, one on one supervisory meetings.
● Assist with planning and participation of special projects, events and activities including community service activities for program and agency.
● Assist staff in program planning, decision-making and gathering resources.
● Provide classroom and administrative support, as needed.
● Consistently and accurately document efforts in real time, including but not
limited to; employer contact, activities, and outcomes into NYCID’s tracking system on a live tracking form.
● Assist in the counseling and advocacy to support and motivate program participants
● Provide direct job coaching services to participants in a variety of employment/internship settings, as needed
● Act as a NYCID ambassador
● Providing crisis intervention as needed

● Strong organizational skills: the ability to work independently & accurately with a great amount of detail

● Demonstrated proficiency in operating standard office equipment and Microsoft Office applications

Additional Notes:
● Must have a valid NYS driver’s license with a clean driving record and own a vehicle
● Candidate must be fingerprinted by NYC Department of Education.
