Tiger Enterprises is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to set up, program, and operate CNC milling equipment at our manufacturing facility in Plantsville, Connecticut.
This position is intended for someone who can take a job from drawing and raw material through first-piece approval and production. The ideal candidate has strong CNC milling experience, understands workholding and inspection, and has experience with 3+2 machining on a 5-axis machining center.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC vertical and 5-axis milling machines
- Program CNC milling operations using CAM software (Mastercam) and machine controls
- Program and set up 3+2 machining operations on a 5-axis mill
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and work instructions
- Select cutting tools, holders, workholding, feeds, speeds, and machining strategies
- Establish work offsets, tool offsets, and probing routines
- Assist with the development of fixtures and workholding
- Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary program or offset adjustments
- Use micrometers, calipers, height gages, indicators, bore gages, and other inspection equipment
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, workholding, dimensional, and surface-finish issues
- Maintain part quality throughout production runs
- Complete production documentation and accurately report job progress
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized
- Work with engineering, quality, and production personnel to improve machining processes
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines
- Experience programming CNC milling operations (Mastercam)
- Experience with 3+2 machining on a 5-axis mill
- Ability to independently set up a job from a drawing, setup sheet, and CNC program
- Strong understanding of machining fundamentals, cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and workholding
- Ability to read engineering drawings and understand dimensional tolerances
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- Experience inspecting machined components using standard precision measuring equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot programs and machining processes
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Haas 5-axis machining centers, including the Haas UMC series
- Experience with Brother Speedio machining centers
- Experience with Southwestern Industries CNC machines
- Experience with Mastercam or similar CAM software
- Experience with probing and tool-setting systems
- Experience machining stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and other production materials
- Experience with fixture design and multi-operation machining
- Experience in a job-shop or high-mix manufacturing environment
Position Expectations
This is not strictly a machine-operator position. Candidates should be comfortable taking ownership of machine setups, tooling decisions, program adjustments, first-piece inspection, and production support.
The right candidate will be dependable, organized, mechanically capable, and able to work independently while communicating effectively with the rest of the manufacturing team.
