Lead Power & Energy Systems Engineer
We are seeking a Lead Engineer to drive the assembly, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of high-power Power and Energy Systems (PES) supporting modular microgrids and advanced load applications, including directed energy systems.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring complex system designs translate into safe, functional, and production-ready hardware, while also providing technical leadership, mentoring, and standards development across programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end integration of complex high-power electrical systems, including:
- Hardware assembly
- Rack and container integration
- MOSA-based architectures
- Safe high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) system bring-up
- Develop and execute system- and component-level test strategies, including:
- Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)
- Fault-insertion testing
- Verification and validation campaigns
- Operate and leverage advanced power test equipment to validate system performance
- Drive troubleshooting efforts and structured root cause analysis (RCA)
- Maintain system documentation and enforce configuration control processes
- Provide technical feedback to improve design robustness and system reliability
- Enforce high-voltage safety protocols and ensure compliance with relevant military and industrial standards
- Lead hazard analyses and promote a strong safety culture
- Interface with program teams and external stakeholders to provide technical leadership and status updates
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development across the team
- Support proposal development, including technical input, cost estimates, and scheduling considerations
Required Qualifications
Experience:
- 9+ years (Bachelor’s), 7+ years (Master’s), or 4+ years (PhD/JD) in a relevant engineering field
Technical Expertise:
- High-power electrical systems (25 kW+; preferably 100 kW+)
- Power converters (rectifiers, inverters, bidirectional DC-DC, AFE)
- Energy storage systems (Li-ion, supercapacitors) and BMS integration
- Protection and switching devices (contactors, solid-state switches, fuses, breakers)
- Power quality, harmonics, EMI/EMC
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, DAQs, thermal cameras)
- Ability to develop and interpret:
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- One-line diagrams
- P&IDs
- Strong experience in system integration, testing, and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews and engage with customers
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with directed energy systems (e.g., high-power lasers, HPM, pulsed power)
- Background in military microgrids, shipboard power systems, or mobile power generation
- Familiarity with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)
- Knowledge of applicable standards, including:
- MIL-STD-1399
- MIL-STD-461
- NFPA 70E
- IEEE 1547
- UL 1741
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent
- Experience supporting proposals, cost estimates, and program planning
- Track record of establishing technical standards and best practices
- Active U.S. Secret clearance (preferred)
Pay: $114,666.06 - $150,000.00 per year
