Are you a detail-driven estimator who can take a set of commercial electrical drawings and turn it into an accurate, competitive bid — someone who keeps every deadline no matter how many projects land on your desk at once? Power On Electric is looking for an Electrical Estimator to own our bids from the first takeoff to the finished proposal, working from home with about one day a week together in the office. We give you the tools and support you need to succeed, reward you for your hard work, and let you choose how you are paid.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE:
- Competitive salary: $80,000 - $95,000 per year, based on experience
- Bonus on every contract we win off your estimate
- Health, vision, and dental reimbursement
- Your choice of W2 or 1099
- A clear career path and real opportunity for advancement as we continue to grow
- Work from home, with about one day a week together in the office
- The tools, systems, and support to set you up for success from day one
- Direct access to ownership - no layers, no red tape, no waiting a week for an answer
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
The mission of this role is to turn commercial electrical drawings into accurate, competitive, on-time bids that win work. You'll own the estimate from the first takeoff through the handoff to operations.
- Reviewing commercial electrical construction drawings, specifications, and drawing revisions
- Performing electrical material takeoffs — counting and quantifying equipment, devices, fixtures, conduit, wire, cable, and all other materials
- Calculating labor hours using the labor unit manual, factoring the right mix of apprentice, journeyman, and master electricians for each scope
- Obtaining material pricing from electrical suppliers, and requesting, comparing, and leveling subcontractor and vendor quotations
- Preparing competitive project bids and developing project scopes, exclusions, and clarifications
- Identifying scope gaps, discrepancies, and project risks before they turn into change orders
- Organizing estimating information in Excel and construction estimating software
- Participating in pre-bid meetings and project walkthroughs
- Communicating with suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, and project personnel
- Helping determine whether a project is the right fit for us to pursue
- Leading the estimating-to-operations handoff when projects are awarded
- Comparing estimated costs against actual project performance to sharpen future estimates
- Prioritizing a moving queue of bids and hitting hard deadlines — the work comes in waves, and you'll manage the peaks
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- 2+ years of construction estimating experience; 4–6+ years preferred
- Fluency in estimating software — we're not picky about which platform, but you need to be genuinely fluid in it, not just familiar
- Proven ability to perform blueprint takeoffs and build material lists independently
- Comfort estimating electrical scope — boxes, switches, devices, and rough-in. Direct electrical estimating experience is a strong plus; broad commercial construction experience works if electrical takeoffs don't intimidate you.
- Working knowledge of labor unit manuals and labor hour calculation
- Experience sourcing supplier pricing and comparing subcontractor and vendor quotes
- Strong Excel skills for organizing and checking estimating data
- Strong math and analytical skills with serious attention to detail
- Proven track record working under deadlines and moderate pressure
- Excellent time management and the judgment to prioritize competing bids
- Located within about two hours of Fort Wayne, IN — the Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and South Bend/Elkhart markets are all a fit
This role is not entry level and there is no training runway. You need to be able to hit the ground running.
