Industrial Engineer
Position Overview
Nexteer is seeking a highly motivated, results-driven professional with a strong sense of ownership, a positive attitude, and a passion for leading change. This role operates within a manufacturing environment and partners closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and UAW-represented employees to improve operational efficiency, optimize cycle times, enhance job design, and refine plant layout.
Key Responsibilities
Proactively identify and mitigate ergonomic, health, and safety risks within assigned areas
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive continuous improvement strategies
Manage manpower planning and forecasting activities to support operational needs
Analyze value streams using the Manufacturing System Design (MSD) Excel simulation tool and other analytical methods to prioritize improvement initiatives
Drive implementation of process improvements by collaborating cross-functionally to ensure alignment and effective execution
Apply Nexteer Production System standards, leveraging Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
Ensure standardized work processes, material handling systems, buffer strategies, and facility layouts remain efficient and adaptable to changing conditions and customer requirements
Monitor equipment and operator performance to maintain standard production rates and troubleshoot issues as needed
Maintain and update all process documentation, including MSD simulation models, standardized work instructions, part routings, and department layouts
Develop and optimize material handling systems, including packaging approval and rack/conveyor design within manufacturing cells
Partner with product line teams to evaluate the operational impact of future programs
Collaborate with Central Engineering to support the successful launch of new programs
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required
Experience:
2–3 years of manufacturing experience preferred
Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CAD software
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices
Demonstrated ability to apply structured problem-solving methodologies
