We are seeking a Wildfire Mitigation Specialist & Field Technician to join the Matador Fire team. This is a hybrid role built for someone who brings real-world fire and mitigation experience, can speak with homeowners about property risk with credibility and confidence, and is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves for field installation and warehouse work.
You will be the face of Matador Fire at client properties, conducting on-site assessments, efficiently walking homeowners through their vulnerabilities, and demonstrating how our system addresses their home’s risks. When not in the field supporting sales, performing assessments, you will work alongside our field and manufacturing team installing systems and supporting operations.
If you are a former wildland firefighter, fire mitigation specialist, or equivalent (someone who knows how fire behaves, can read a property, and can communicate that clearly to a homeowner) this role was built for you.
Key Responsibilities
- On-Site Assessments: Visit homeowner properties across Los Angeles to evaluate wildfire risk — identifying vulnerabilities in structure, vegetation, and placement — and demonstrate how Matador Fire's system addresses them. You will collect the information needed for our sales team to generate a proposal.
- Homeowner Education: Speak knowledgeably about fire behavior, home hardening principles, defensible space, and how our product fits into a broader protection strategy. You represent Matador Fire's credibility in the field.
- Field Installation & Service: Drive a company truck to customer sites to install and service Matador Fire’s wildfire defense systems according to operational protocol.
- Manufacturing & Assembly: Support assembly of Matador Fire’s systems when necessary (not a core responsibility)
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with our sales and operations teams. You are the eyes and ears on client properties; your notes and observations directly drive the proposals we deliver to homeowners.
Qualifications & Skills
- Field Experience: Background in wildland firefighting, wildfire mitigation, defensible space consulting, or a closely related field. You know how to read a property and identify real risk.
- Homeowner-Facing Credibility: Comfortable leading conversations with homeowners, building trust quickly, and communicating complex risk in plain language.
- Hands-On: Willing and comfortable working with your hands.
- Strong Communication: Clear, professional, and confident with customers and teammates alike.
- Reliable & Accountable: Punctual, dependable, and takes ownership of their work. We are a small team — everyone's effort matters.
Preferred
- NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist certification or equivalent credential
- Prior experience conducting formal home ignition zone or defensible space assessments
- Familiarity with fire-resistant construction, ember intrusion, and home hardening standards

- Valid driver's license and clean driving record, you will operate a company-owned truck
- No criminal history — a comprehensive background check will be performed prior to hiring
- Comfort navigating the Santa Clarita Valley and broader Los Angeles basin
