Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer will design advanced bakery equipment and develop efficient plant layouts using 3D CAD tools. This role ensures that all designs are functional, manufacturable, and aligned with established engineering standards, while overseeing the creation of detailed drawings and bills of materials and issuing complete design packages for manufacturing and purchasing teams. The position collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and customer teams to resolve design challenges and drive continuous improvement across projects.
Responsibilities

Design bakery equipment using SolidEdge 3D CAD software to evaluate and optimize form, fit, and function.

Develop detailed plant layouts that optimize process flow, equipment placement, and overall production efficiency.

Modify and refine existing equipment designs to enhance functionality and performance based on customer requirements.

Ensure all drawings and models comply with established engineering and manufacturing standards.

Create comprehensive and accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) for both manufactured and purchased components.

Prepare and issue complete design packages for use by manufacturing, purchasing, and assembly teams.

Create detailed CAD drawings, models, and illustrations of bakery equipment and components for use in fabrication and assembly.

Collaborate with project engineers, applications engineers, and customer teams to resolve design challenges and address technical issues.

Lead design projects and provide technical leadership and guidance to design, manufacturing, and assembly personnel.

Train and mentor team members on design standards, 3D modeling best practices, and CAD system operations.

Provide regular feedback and recommendations to improve operational efficiency and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or an Associate’s/Technical Degree in Engineering with at least 2 years of related experience.

5–10 years of mechanical design experience in CAD-focused, precision engineering, or manufacturing environments.

Hands-on design and drafting experience using 3D CAD software in a production or engineering setting.

Proficiency with Solid Edge, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar 3D CAD products, with the ability to present a portfolio of work where confidentiality allows.

Strong ability to read and interpret engineering documents, technical drawings, and manuals, and correlate them accurately with Bills of Materials.

Advanced technical math skills, including geometry, algebra, percentages, and ratios, applied in an engineering context.

Strong problem-solving and reasoning abilities to analyze issues, evaluate options, and develop effective design solutions.

Experience using precise measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and organizational levels.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience working in precision engineering or manufacturing environments focused on custom or complex equipment.

Experience in designing or supporting process equipment or automated machinery.

Ability to train, coach, and guide other team members in design standards and CAD best practices.

Comfort presenting design concepts and solutions to cross-functional teams and customers.

Portfolio of prior CAD work demonstrating design capability and attention to detail, subject to confidentiality requirements.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple design projects and priorities simultaneously.

Work Environment
The Mechanical Design Engineer works in a professional engineering and manufacturing environment focused on the design and production of bakery equipment and plant systems. The role is primarily office-based, using modern 3D CAD tools such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor, and involves regular interaction with project engineers, applications engineers, manufacturing staff, and customer teams. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Robesonia, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $43.00/hr.
