TrueCraft Industries Inc. is seeking an experienced Metal Stud, Drywall & Acoustical Estimator to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial construction projects involving metal framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, acoustical wall systems, insulation, and related scopes of work.
The ideal candidate has strong construction knowledge, understands how projects are built in the field, can interpret architectural and structural drawings, and has the ability to identify scope requirements and potential issues before a project is awarded.
This position will work closely with project management, field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, general contractors, architects, and customers to develop complete and profitable bids.
Essential ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Takeoffs
- Review plans, specifications, addenda, RFIs, and other project documents.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for:
- Metal stud framing
- Drywall and gypsum board
- Shaftwall systems
- Acoustical ceilings
- Acoustical wall panels
- Insulation
- ACT grid and tile
- Exterior/interior sheathing
- Blocking and backing
- Access panels and related accessories
- Specialty wall and ceiling systems
- Determine labor requirements, material quantities, equipment, and production rates.
- Prepare complete and accurate estimates in accordance with project plans and specifications.
- Review architectural details and identify scope that may not be obvious from floor plans.
- Identify conflicts, missing information, exclusions, and potential change-order opportunities.
- Review addenda and incorporate revisions into estimates prior to bid submission.
Pricing & Procurement
- Obtain and evaluate material pricing from vendors and suppliers.
- Solicit and compare subcontractor and specialty trade quotations when applicable.
- Maintain current knowledge of material costs, labor rates, and market conditions.
- Develop labor and material pricing based on project requirements and expected production.
- Apply appropriate overhead, general conditions, contingency, and profit margins.
- Verify that estimates include all necessary accessories, fasteners, trims, lifts, equipment, delivery, and miscellaneous materials.
Bid Preparation
- Prepare professional and organized proposals for general contractors and customers.
- Clearly identify inclusions, exclusions, qualifications, and assumptions.
- Review bid requirements, bid forms, scope sheets, and contractual requirements.
- Track bid due dates and ensure estimates are completed and submitted on time.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, job walks, and scope reviews when required.
- Review competing scope and market conditions to help develop competitive bids while protecting company profitability.
Project Turnover
- Participate in turnover meetings with project management after a project is awarded.
- Clearly communicate the estimate's assumptions, exclusions, production expectations, and scope requirements.
- Provide project managers with takeoffs, bid documents, vendor quotes, and other relevant estimating information.
- Assist with reviewing change-order pricing when requested.
- Support project management and operations with pricing and scope questions throughout the project.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of commercial construction estimating experience, preferably in metal framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, or related trades.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, reflected ceiling, and detail drawings.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and Division 09 scopes.
- Experience performing detailed construction takeoffs.
- Strong knowledge of metal stud framing, drywall systems, acoustical ceilings, and related materials.
- Ability to accurately calculate quantities and labor requirements.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other estimating software.
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the estimating and operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating commercial projects ranging from $100,000 to multi-million-dollar contracts.
- Experience working with general contractors and commercial construction customers.
- Experience with estimating software such as OST/On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Planswift, STACK, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of prevailing wage and public works estimating.
- Familiarity with labor agreements and union/non-union labor requirements.
- Experience with school, healthcare, tenant improvement, hospitality, and other commercial projects.
- Strong understanding of California construction practices and requirements.
- Existing relationships with drywall, framing, acoustical, insulation, and material suppliers.

Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to work in an office environment for extended periods while performing computer-based estimating.
- Occasional travel to construction sites, pre-bid meetings, and job walks.
- Ability to walk active construction sites and safely navigate construction environments.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with field personnel, customers, vendors, and management.
